First, I never deluded myself into supposing that priests were free from Original Sin. Second, I knew that those who yelled loudest against Catholic clergymen for being perverts were the same individuals who considered perversion eminently OK, when anti-Catholics practiced it.

Just two problems:
A) the manner of "perversion" in question is quite different. Mine don't require that I victimize children (or anyone, for that matter).
B) I haven't willingly taken up a position of religious authority that comes with the presumption of greater willpower in the face of so-called sins. We expect firefighters to brave fires even as we flee them. We expect soldiers to stand and fight as civilians take shelter. We expect technicians to understand and know how to fix technical issues that the layman cannot. We expect doctors to know how to deal with a multitude of medical issues that we do not. We expect architects to have a deeper knowledge of construction techniques than the average Minecraft player. None of them get a pass on failing to live up to the higher standards of their chosen occupations and neither do the clergy.
The perversion you speak of is child abuse , you dense fucking shitwit, and it isn't okay when anyone harms a child.
Never. Ever. Under any circumstances.
If you're associating clergy sex abuse with homosexuality, I'll remind you that girls are just as often abused and raped as boys. Rape and molestation are not LGBT values, no matter how much you'd like to think so.
@KittyKaboom
Word. Other than rape, hurting children is the one line I will NEVER, EVER cross.
@Wyzard
That’s a Vader quote, but the picture is CLEARLY referencing Palpatine.
The difference is that, unlike pedophile priests, we never took a vow of chastity. And we don't rape little kids, but that's beside the point; it's insignificant, really.
Uh, no. Pedophilia is not "eminently OK", and religion of the perp is irrelevant. It is NOT Catholic persecution when we denounce and defrock priests for actions that would get any other person clapped in jail. The fact that in most cases there were no jail sentences is proof that their position in the church made them PROTECTED, not persecuted.
What??? People think sex abuse of children is OK as long as it's not a Catholic Priest doing it? What sort of twisted non-logic is that? Or are you calling gay people perverts? It's not a crime to have gay sex, but it is a crime to molest children.
I don't care if it's an atheist molesting a child, it's ALWAYS wrong.
And even if true, how does that remove the guilt of those priests who molested children? "They did it too" has never been a valid defense of anything.
Original sin or Adamic sin has nothing to do with sins committed by any living person. I don't think you're a good Catholic.
Actually, a lot of people don't understand that original sin is a foundation doctrine of Christianity. Only groups I can think of that don't believe in it are Quakers and Mormons.
@Ivurm:
I get the feeling that the 'perversion that is being practiced by 'anti-Catholics,' which R.J. is referring to, isn't necessarily child molestation. Instead, I fear that it is homosexuality.
You're equivocating between different acts labeled perversion.
The acts the priests are committing are entirely nonconsensual. The opponents generally include supporters of LGBT rights, and sexual activity between people of the same sex can be consensual.
There's a big, big difference.
“Second, I knew that those who yelled loudest against Catholic clergymen for being perverts were the same individuals who considered perversion eminently OK, when anti-Catholics practiced it.”
Ah.
You’re conflating gay and pedophiles. I’m okay with gay, not with pedophiles.
I’m okay with hiring gays, but not with covering up for pedophiles.
I’m okay with priests having sex with each other or adult parishoners, not with pedophiles.
I don’t yell at Catholic clergy for being gay.
Confused?
