Azareux:
"Which interpretation of the book are you using to determine who is and isn't Christian?"
Biblical interpretation, God Bless!
"Is being saved and baptized sufficient? If so, I count."
Are you TRULY Saved? Do you TRULY believe in the Jesus of the Christian Bible?
"And don't get me started on the discussion as to which books are apocryphal and which aren't."
It's well established--there is no discussion to be had.
"Jerry, the "No True Scotsman" fallacy applies to any group, regardless of the official guidelines, because people that meet the official guidelines are still discounted by others because they don't meet a standard made up by those others that is NOT part of the official guidelines.
If the criteria for being ginger are red hair, fair skin, freckles, and green eyes, saying someone is not ginger because one of their parents is a Manchester U fan is an example of "No True Scotsman"."
A blonde wouldn't fit your criteria then. Ditto when false "Christians" claim that they are Christians or that they are Saved. Bible gives us the criteria, and we're to judge (1 Cor 2:15, Lev 19:15)by it.
"Just like if the requirements for Christianity are "Believes in and tries to follow the teaches of Jesus, saved, baptized", then saying "Well, if they're (insert thing I don't like), then they aren't Real Christians" is a textbook example of the "No True Scotsman" fallacy. "
These are not requirements for Christianity. A Christian believes. All else follows FROM faith. And if it doesn't follow, then we can judge that person a false Christian because that would indicate that the faith is not genuine.
Hope this answers your heart's questioning,
Jerry
