[Responding to a gay male Christian who wants to get married.]
Okay, as long as you're sure....you might want to have a little conversation with God about that, "I don't believe same sex marriage is necessarily sinful" thing though.
He may disagree with you. He made the design. He may have some input.
Then you'll need to decide what to do with THAT.
Can you tell me what benefits a person to be 'same-sex married'....why is that's good and defendable?

Its funny because this guy believes that gays should not be married, because God said it, right?
I'm sure he's trying to ignore God's punishment for adultery, or a woman not being a virgin on her wedding night (both punishable be stoning)
Everybody cherry-picks the Bible, looking for things that support their arguments, the difference is atheists don't use the fucking thing as a moral guideline
...
The yummy, yummy benefits that heterosexual married couples have?
It pleases the fangirls (and some fanboys), as Anonymous said?
It is funny how hard it is for these fundamentalists to understand, that gay marriage doesn´t have to do anything with homosexuals wanting to have their relationship legalized by god, but rather with having the same rights as a marriesd heterosexual couples
Actually it is quite simple, the LGBT folk want the same rights to fuck in public places just like the fundie heterosexuals do, I mean it is not fair if you folks can fuck anywhere like in the malls and the LGBT folk cannot - all's fair in war and love ya know.
And while they are about that they would love to gay rape you folk and fuck your children too.
[/sarcasm]
I haven't been able to identify the source of the quote. It's still only 'meh'. Asking questions is a much better approach to reality than Fundies typically adopt.
Insofar as 'asking God about that' goes, when I was a teenager I had a dream in which Jesus asked me to have gay sex. Since a dream the other way would be a proclaimed miracle, I claim this one too.
So God's actually happy about this after all.

- Equality of rights across the board
- Tax benefits
- Inheritance
- Hospital Visitation
- medical treatment consultation rights
- Dignity
And those are for starters.
As to God, your interpretation of the Bible is YOURS. There are others who interpret it differently. Learn to live with that thought.

I would imagine the benefits for gay people would be the same benefits that straight people get from marriage.
So, I had my little conversation with God about all this. He said:
The planet is melting and the rainforests are burning. People are killing each other. Men are terrorizing and abusing women, in their homes and in brothels. You are stockpiling weapons of mass destruction. A few obscenely rich people are making life wretched for the vast majority. Your lifestyle is unsustainable. You have forgotten how to be happy and think that a chemical fix will sort your problems out.
You tell me that two people who love each other want to get married. Great. Oh, and they're both men. You think that bothers me? I've got three words to say to you.

The bible also says that black people are to be your slaves, and that women can't work.
So if you have a black friend and your wife drives a car, YOU can "have a little conversation with God about that", because he might be a little pissed at you.
Since everyone else has pointed out the more glaring idiocies...
He may disagree with you. He made the design. He may have some input.
Yup. He designed it so that all living things have sexual orientations, many of which are not heterosexual. He designed it so that people can govern themselves and decide society's laws.
I'm sorry, what was your point, again...?
....you might want to have a little conversation with God about that
I just had and He said He approves of gay marriage and wishes people would stop interpreting the Bible out of its original context in order to use it to discriminate and badmouth other people.
What now?
/Can you tell me what benefits a person to be 'same-sex married'....why is that's good and defendable?/
I don't know, why do heterosexuals want to get married? Why is their marriage good and defendable? Maybe because they want to get the same legal and financial rights that come with marriage? Maybe because they love each other and want to commit to each other as best as they can? You think?
"That Christians don't understand this despite having it explained to them again and again is bizarre. "
Anything in the bible that would personally inconvenience us is Figurative or just meant for people back when it was first written. Things that condemn other people are to be taken completely literally and applied at every opprotunity, even if their right next to the things just dismissed as figurative or not meant for us. That athiests dont understand this despite having it explained to them again and again is bizarre.
Goddamit he's so fucking pompous and self-righteous I just wanna slap him...
"Can you tell me what benefits a person to be 'same-sex married'....why is that's good and defendable?"
Oh, I dunno, what are the benefits of being 'different-sex married'?
"you might want to have a little conversation with God about that"
Ok. God, this guy wants to marry another guy. What are your thoughts on that? Why won't you answer this simple question? Is is because you don't care, or because you don't exist?
"Okay, as long as you're sure....you might want to have a little conversation with God about that"
I had that conversation with god. He said he was allah.
Okay, you sanctimonious cow, if God does not want him to get married, he can stop the guy PERSONALLY. Otherwise, you can sit down, shut up, and kindly fuck off!
@SteelyDanorak:
Well said.
The quote that comes to my mind: "That which you do to the least of my people, you do unto Me." Direct quote from God, in the Bible. Which I studied. In high school (I went to a religious school). Which "DelightnTheLord" probably has never really even taken a good look at.
Anyway! Persecuting a singular innocent "gay male Christian", you say? Ooh, God's gonna get after you for that, because since this gay man openly believes in the Christian God, he is for all intents and purposes one of the Christian God's people, so "DelightnTheLord" is essentially persecuting the God he says he believes in. Plus all people, gays and lesbians included, are members of God's supreme creation, i.e. also created in His likeness, which is independent IMO of religious affiliation.
"DelightnTheLord" may think himself smug and superior, but he will have to answer to the Lord once he dies and finds himself evaluated by what he's done to God's people here on Earth.
I'll accept that it's bad and undefendable when you give me a valid reason to.
And by the way, "God says so" is not a valid reason, because you can't even prove he exists.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
