I guess this is why right-wing fundies & neocons are so insular & Americentric. Because they fear what they don't know about. And they hate what they fear.
Although Queen Elizabeth II is the Defender of the Faith of the Church of England, at least it's not as pervasive as fundies stateside & how their lobbyists infect everywhere they think they have the right to interfere. And due to our healthy British sense of irony & cynicism, how we have the ability to question everything - our press, our politicians, even religion, no fundie can possibly exist in the UK as they do in the USA. To the extent that, in our political parties - even the Conservative Party - to speak, act & think in a fundy way publicly is a sure-fire vote killer (and if they even tried to, the party's Chief Whips will make sure they don't, in no uncertain terms!).
So you see, US fundies, even before Richard Dawkins came to prominence (via "The God Delusion", never mind those bus advert slogans), we in the UK live in an almost ATHEIST country. Mainly due to how we'd seen how Fundamentalist Christianity had completely fucked up America (thank goodness for programmes like Panorama, Man Alive, and documentaries etc - especially Louis Theroux living with Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church for several days - ye gods, but that was an education & a half! And how he could stomach living with THEM? His bravery, patience & fortitude is almost that of our troops in Afghanistan!).
Oh, one more thing, neocons & fundies stateside. Your insularity & geographic ignorance hides, I suspect, denial. Denial of the fact that state intervention, especially via a comprehensive welfare system and socialised universal medical care in particular, WORKS - as proved by our National Health Service. Which, although instituted by the post-war Labour governmemt, was planned & conceived by a Conservative. Wrap your little right-wing mind round that concept.
So, Vote Repubican, believe what YOU want. I can't exactly stop you being a deluded neocon moron. But make sure you know YOUR place fundies, and it's this: YOU are powerless in my Great Britain. As you'll always be.
Thus is why you & your ilk are insular & Americentric - because you FEAR what works elsewhere which would shatter your narrow little worldview if tried in your country: Universal Healthcare. A Left-wing liberal government. Religion having NO place in education, politics or in any part of public life. Even a president who is unmarried, and doesn't believe in a God (we had a Prime Minister like that, once: Edward Heath - he was single, and an Atheist; he was a Conservative, to boot!). Why not try it sometime, America? It won't kill you. We have, and we haven't ceased to exist as a result.
