Funny a long time ago a man was reading in the Bible, the book of Isiah Chapter 14, where it says the earth is sphere. He then went on to disprove science which stated at that time the world was FLAT! Image that, using the Bible to disprove science, now why cant we do that today.

no, shit for brains. the catholic church said the world was flat because the bible told it too. science has, since the greeks , known the world was spherical.
who was it anyhow? euclid? pythagoras?
I had a similar argument with some demented fundie a while back over the meaning of the word 'circle.' Demented Fundie, like Mike here, also took the word circle to mean sphere. Not even a dictionary definition of 'circle' and 'sphere' would convince him that the two are different.

No it does not. Who was this man and how long ago was it?
He then went on to disprove science which stated at that time the world was FLAT!
Science never stated that the world was flat.

Because, unlike the Bible, science is self-correcting.
Indeed, as Amos points out, Fundie dorks in their grasping for straws, often claim that the circle in Is 40 refers to a spherical earth. In fact, all it really shows is that they failed geometry.
JohnIQR7, please cite the user of the scientific method who claimed the earth was flat.
Sorry, in no part of the Bible it says the Earth is spherical. In fact, during the Middle Ages up to the sixteenth century was, guess what?, FLAT!!!!, and static. Alternative bizarro universe number 5.
Mike is lying and/or mistaken here on every point -- theology, history, and science. Back to the drawing board, Mike. Try a different crayon next time.

Because your post is the non-sensical equivalent of a shell-shocked soldier with encephalitis, rabies and a severe crack habit yelling at his shoes because his rat died.
Image that.

Fixed.

(spelling and grammar aside, I'd say it's because it couldn't even back when it was written.)
This shows you how ignorant you are.
People knew the Earth was a sphere long before the Christians did. The Hindus... well, they kinda believed it was half a sphere, but credit goes to them for not believing it's flat.
The Greeks knew it was spherical long before that.
And the Christian monks of olden times knew the Earth was a sphere, not because they read the Bible but because they did an experiment.
One monk went up to the top of a tower in his church and saw he could see further away. From this, he reasoned that the Earth must have been a sphere.
The Bible had nothing to do with it.
The Franciscan friar, Roger Bacon, would be sad to hear your complete claptrap.

What man are you talking about?
Anyway, there is nothing in Isaiah Chapter 14 about it. Maybe you meant 40.
@Isiah Chapter 40, verse 22He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.
...Which quite clearly states that the Earth is a circle. A circle , not a sphere. Get it?
Here's a little help for you.
This is a circle:

This is a sphere:

Um, people discovered that the Earth was a sphere in the time of the ancient Greeks. Although science as an enterprise didn't really exist back then, they used the scientific method to discover this fact.
Image that, using the Bible to disprove science...
Image it?
OK.

Hey, you asked for it.
...now why cant we do that today.
Why can't you do that today?
Because the scientific method has shown a remarkable ability to correct itself, and the most vital prerequisite to gaining any understanding about anything in the universe is being able to figure out when an idea is wrong and discard it. The Bible, on the other hand, is an unchanging collection of stories and creation myths derived from the oral traditions of a bronze age culture. Not only is there no mechanism for identifying and rejecting inaccuracies (in fact, the very idea that it could possibly be wrong is anathema to its proponents), but there is no method of even adding to it; no way to make any progress at all, even random progress riddled with errors.
Again, you asked.

Funny then, that it was ancient Greek mathematicians - as in BCE - who calculated that the Earth was spherical before the Bible existed.
And when it did exist, the Bible claimed that Pi = exactly 3. Viddy well ([/"A Clockwork Orange]) this, Mikey-boy:

Pre-Biblical ancient Greek science proving the later Bible wrong. Now why can't any of you fundies build a wheel using the Bible's mathematical model, if it is the 'perfect', inerrant 'Word of God'...?
Confused?
