For one thing, the Epic of Gilgamesh is older. For another thing, are you saying that since the Da Vinci Code and Harry Potter are so popular, they must be true?

Second question implies the answer to the first - as one of the oldest mass-produced, publicly purchasable books, the bible's built up a lot of momentum over the years.
Bear in mind that older != better. If I set out to buy a science textbook I'm going to get the most recent, up to date copy, not one that's centuries old and full of disproven ideas.

There are many older writings than the Bible, especially in Egypt and Mesopotamia. In some cases, we have original manuscripts over 4000 years old on clay tablets in Mesopotamian libraries or carved in stone in Egyptian monuments.
