It is, of course, possible to adapt to one's environment without evolving. We do it all the time by learning, and most every complex animal does it via their immune system.

If AS(-hole?) is implying that individual bacteria become immune to antibiotics, then he is correct in saying that it would not be an example of evolution, but incorrect by virtue of the fact that it is clearly not what is happening.

The genes for antibiotic resistance in many strains have been found, isolated, sequences, probed, studied, and published complete with pretty colour diagrams and fancy long words. What's more, their frequency in bacteria samples taken from the wild has been shown to be changing (increasing) over time.

Change in the frequency of a gene in a population over time is evolution, by definition.

AS "I'll email Answers in Genesis right away and have them take the website down. How silly that we've actually been arguing the same case under different names for so long!"
