First of all, I've never heard this before, site chapter and verse.
Unless he, in his infinite wisdom, already knew that there weren't 10 good people in Sodom*, and just wanted to watch Lot dance.
Wow, he wipes out nearly an entire city because he doesn't like their attitude? You need to look up the definitition of the word mercy. Also, as some have mentioned, Lot offered up his daughters to a crowd to be gang raped. Then after they left the city, his daughters got Lot drunk and had sex with him so they could have children. So does your god condone rape and incest or not?
Because, of course, it's impossible for a truly good person to be too modest to say that they were. Besides, I thought your god was supposed to be all powerful? Wouldn't he have already known whether there were any good people in the city or not? Or is this yet another one of those flaws you're so determined not to see?

Let's imagine that god was a baker in a bakery. If he made cookies, pie and cakes all week long, but out of all of his half-assed efforts, he only had a small box of sellable product, he would be fired. Aside from the weatherforcasters, can you think of another job besides being god that one only has to have a single digit success rate? And on top of it, this slacker is made the CEO of the company and everybody kisses his ass? That's the equivalent of Enron fucking over its employees. Maybe that's where they got their idea?
Of course, Lot was a baddi as his wife, and makes two, not to mention his daughters, four.................up to ten, I don´t know, mercy doesn´t seem so attainable.
