I feel this is a devastating blow to the core of who and what America used to stand for. I would rather die at the hand of terrorist or enemies than to be protected or represented by pagans. In the Old Testament did God's make armies full of devil worshipers prosper and defeat the enemy? Uh, no. So then why do we think it is okay and that God will continue to protect and make us victorious if we are allowing open worship of false gods? That's like setting up an idol of Baal right next to the temple of God. Do you think He is going to stand by quietly? As you can tell, I am furious.

Okay, so, only Christians in the military.

The United States is 76% Christian. Now, I suspect there's probably a higher percentage in the military. I'll guesstimate and say 80%.

You've just cut 20% of the forces out. Twenty percent. One out of five.

But I imagine, being a Rapture Ready denizen, you don't consider Catholics or Mormons to be Christians. So, we're down to Protestants. About 50% of the US is Protestant. Again, there's probably a higher percentage than that in the military -- we'll call it 60%.

So, you've knocked another twenty percent of the personnel away. You've gone well beyond literally decimating the forces, which would mean getting rid of one in every ten. You've gotten rid of four out of every ten.

And I'm sure you'd eventually have some sort of spiritual purity review boards on every base, too. "What's that, Captain? Your Episcopal Church didn't leave the denomination when they appointed a homo to be a Bishop? That's not going to look good on your officer efficiency report this year..." Eventually becoming "What's that, Captain? You're an Episcopalian? That's not going to look good..."

I'm not even going to begin to guesstimate what kind of numbers that would leave us with, but I'm sure it would be even more brutal.

Now, imagine your response if B. Hussein Obama proposed cutting the military personnel budget at all. Even if you allowed anyone who professed to be a Christian to serve, that means cutting 20% of military personnel. The only times we've cut personnel like that are when we ended wars with a draft involved.

Sorry, what makes you think Baal is a false God?
The Bible says there are many Gods:

Exodus 12:12 And against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment.

Around here, the Finnish army doesn't really seem to care damn about what religion anyone professes - national defence is, according to them, everyone's duty. In the unlikely event we end up in the war, I don't expect everyone to go to the front, but I fully expect everyone to do their part in some capacity to help us not get flattened. I can't remember anything about how to shoot with the damn assault rifles, but I'm sure it'd come back to me.

So why the heck are you denying some people should be allowed to fulfil their patriotic duty? Do you hate your own country so much that you'll wilfully deny that duty from anyone?

In the dawn of civilised history, the Middle East was full of quarreling nations, each with their victorious (or not so victorious) army, languages and most importantly religions. After Judaism had taken root, it was still a minority religion in the scale of the entire known world. By the time the Roman empire adopted Christianity and unified it into a somewhat coherent whole, the majority of the greatest battles of that empire had already gone by.

In summary: In Old Testament and New Testament era, the "pagan" armies were very numerous and very victorious. Don't know about "devil worship", as that might not be exactly prevalent without Judeo-Christian religions either...

Another Internet hero. If it really came down to you dying or being saved by a pagan, you wouldn't choose to die.

And the pagan, even if s/he knew that you hated paganism, wouldn't choose not to save you. If you were his comrade or an American civilian, you would be all set.

also, @solomongrundy: this quote is not primarily about religious people's beliefs or how right or wrong they may be. This quote is primarily about what RIGHTS religious people should have, e.g. should every religion be allowed to serve in the military. If you can't prove that they don't have a mental illness WITHOUT reclassifying religion itself as one, then they have a right to be there, and this quote is just typical fundy hate REGARDLESS of whether Wiccans are also deluded.
