[Fundies have been discussing Obama's plans to meet with Russian LGBT rights advocates.]
Isn't Putin the guy who recently said that Russia would attack the US I'd the US attacked Syria? It seems to me that O is trying to goad Russia into getting angry enough to attack us. It's a long shot but if Russia did decide that global thermonuclear war was the only way to control O, that could bring us under marshal law. Right now the constitution prevents the US from joining a one world government. Under marshal law, O could pretty much have his way, in other words...goodbye American sovereignty!

So this is the plan:
1. Obama meets with Russian LGBT groups.
2. Somehow this is reason enough for Russia to start a thermo-nuclear war with the USA, even though that would mean their own destruction by the US nukes.
3. And all that so Obama can put whatever remains of the USA under “marshall law” (I like that, sounds a little like Judge Dredd).
4. The invocation of martial law would somehow mean that the USA will lose their sovereignty. (To whom?)
I think if Obama would want to establish martial law there would be much easier ways to do so than turning most of the USA into a nuclear wasteland
I'm not impressed with thoughts on military issues from someone who can't spell "martial." Well, it may be "a long shot," but that is how putting together fundie obsessions work. All you missed in your global nuclear war scenario was squeezing in the Rapture.
Not that it's gonna matter to you very er...soon anyway. It'll just be martial law of the left behind, I like to take that to mean that only right-wingers will go whoosh!
Any case, it'll be a perfect scenario for drama queens and wannabe persecutees.
Marshal Law? Wasn't that a TV series?
Ah no, it was a TV movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116997/
At any rate, there's no provision in the Constitution that allows a president to declare martial law and then letting him do whatever he wants. Too bad conspiracy nuts have never figured this out yet.
1. No, you massive douche-nozzle, Putin never threatened to attack the US if we attacked Syria. No. Nope. Never. He just doesn't have the resources to sustain any sort of war with the Uniform Sierra. He did, however, threaten to veto any UN action against Syria proposed by the US.
2. It's more than a long shot, it's bad strategy to risk your nation's survival in order to "control" another nation's leader. Stupid. Dumb. Asshole stunned. Putin is a massive dickwad, but he doesn't appear stupid.
3. Could you point out where the Constitution forbids the US from joining some larger, trans-national organization, like say...the UN? Or WHO? Or NATO?
3. Marshal Law was a comic book series from a few years ago, not a political stance.
Now please, eff off.
Yes indeed, that's a long shot. It's the only slightly more likely than the pink and green eskimo committee launching a giant, nuclear, rubber-band ball at Jamaica from their bases in Swaziland.
"Isn't Putin the guy who recently said that Russia would attack the US I'd the US attacked Syria?"
No. No, he didn't say that. You literally just made that up.
"Right now the constitution prevents the US from joining a one world government."
I've read the constitution, and no where does it say that the U.S. can't join such an organization. Stop making things up.
It isn't likely that any President will ever declare martial law on his own authority. The precedent that the U.S. has for martial law is the Congressionally declared martial law during the civil war. Only Congress can suspend habeas corpus which places the power to declare martial law in the hands of Congress.
If there was ever a topic that conspiracy theorists don't understand it is martial law. It does not mean that the President can do whatever he wants and essentially crown himself dictator, If martial law ever was declared there would be a large amount of civilian oversight.
Confused?
