*thumps head on desk* You are not 'talking about them as if they're real'. In no class, ever, do you treat Greek Gods as if they're real living things. They're fucking fictional characters, and if you can't see the difference between fiction and... oh wait, never mind.
Whoever said you had to treat them as if they were real? Perhaps you're disturbed because discussing these patently fictitious things feels so very similar to discussions about your own god, and you're perilously close to making the obvious inference. Or maybe you're just incapable of differentiating fiction from reality at all.
Yes, little one, you have to study them, since most of your religion comes directly from the beliefs invented by the ancient Greeks, Romans, Sumerians, etc.
Not to mention, you have to study them because if you don't you will not only fail the course, you will look like (and BE) an uneducated, bigoted idiot.
Does your english teacher know the Odessey isn't exactly part of english literature?
Also, please point out the verse where the bible says you don't have to read and take the test.
way to get out of doing home work!
Nobody wants you to believe in these gods, just learn about it as part of past culture! Idiot!
And your mom said, "Stop being a whiny bitch, nobody believes in them, but you have to study them for historical significance, just like Hitler, but some people do agree with him, but that's because they're stupid ARE YOU UNDERSTANDING THIS?!"
You don't have to believe them to study them, dumbass. Go home, suck it up, and do your goddamn homework.

True, but it is an important part of the history of world literature and was a major influence on English literature.
Fail at spelling.
Fail at sentence construction.
Fail at attempting to get out of doing homework and tests by using religion as an excuse.
Yep, it's a Fundie, alright. You deserve to fail your "english" course.

"Does your english teacher know the Odessey isn't exactly part of english literature?"
It's been almost a decade since high school, but to add to what 'maxedout' said, most public school "English" classes are actually "Language Arts" classes (covering a wide range of topics) up until high school and "Literature" and "Writing" classes in high school, with the English language and Western influences being the main topics, of course. If I recall correctly, in high school, my "English" classes were "World Literature", "Creative Writing", "American Literature", and "Formal Writing". But as I said, it's been a while, things have likely changed a bit, and it obviously isn't going to be the same in every school system.
EDIT: Oh, and I remember my school system making a big deal out of integration. That is, the English and History classes intermingled and talked about related topics, the Sciences and Mathematics classes bounced work off each other, etc. Freshmen year especially, with the world lit class studying things like the Odyssey while the world history classes talked about ancient greece. That kind of thing.
Not fundie, just a kid trying to get out of school work and a test. Hell, I tried similar tactics... fundie would have been the mom saying ya and then getting pissed at the teacher for flunking the kid.
". . .and read a book called The Odessey about greek gods. "
I admit it's been awhile, but isn't The Odyssey primarily about Ulysses/Odysseus and his quest to return home to his kingdom and his wife, with minor gods/goddesses and titans being obstacles for him to overcome?
Also, I'm quite sure I remember it being a work of fiction. :P
You just have to LEARN about the Greek gods. No one is asking you to worship them...unless you teacher is telling you to sacrifice goats, then you should worry. Until then, just learn and don't worry about it. If God really wanted us stupid He would not have let us evolve brains.
Uh...the fundies don't read fairy tales. So the kid probably never read Cinderella. Fairy tales have magic and witchcraft and if your kid reads Cinderella, he may grow up thinking you can turn a pumpkin into a carriage when what you want him to understand is that only God can turn a pumpkin into a carriage and only if you pray hard enough for it and really really believe He will....
Trust me...I escaped from the fundies. I've heard it all.
Ah, the naivety of youth. My child, you should not relegate your religion to a simple tool used to get out of a little homework. Goodness no. Your religion has so much more to offer. You can also use it to trick people into sending you lots and lots of money, deny people you don't like their basic human rights, have sex with 9 year old children, gain a completely undeserved level of fame and respect, subtly threaten people into voting you into positions of political power and get people to fight and die for your personal gain.
Oh, please. My ancestors worshipped the gods that are mentioned in "The Odyssey," a book I've read countless times in numerous versions, in and out of school. According to you, that would mean that I'm automatically a pagan who makes a point to ritually sacrifice bulls and sheep on a regular basis. WRONG. I'm Christian and I recognize that "The Odyssey" is an epic, a popular Greek myth, and that is that. Nobody even brought up the idea of me possibly believing in the gods that I read about. So, suck it up, you whiny crybaby.
Well, this isn't really fundy, it's just a silly kid trying to get out of doing her homework. It's alright for KIDS to be kids, it's when you have a 55 year old that talks like this, then there's problems.
Ha. Notice how he sifted through the answers, picked the one he liked the best, and then chose it as the best answer? Even though it was the lowest rated, and the one that made the least sense?
your anti-intellectualism is showing. You could afford to read some books, it might help you horrendous grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
Yes yes my little ones, fail in school and society.
Move toward stupidity, fail and stay in your own little suburbs so i don't never touch you poisoned minds.
"Listen to them, the children of the christ.
What bleeding crakket do they make".
"Tonight I told my mom that for my homework I have to study the greek gods
but I asked her if scince Im Christian if I didnt have to do it
because thats againts my beleifs, because by studying them
and talking about them like they are real,"
But they are real! Just as real as your gods.
"and my religion says there is only one God that I dont have to do the reading of the book and the test for them."
Non-sequitur. You wont ever find out what one of those is if you keep using "God ate my homework" as an excuse every time.
You just keep believing that it's against your religion to get an education. It'll mean that in these times of scarcer jobs people who put the real world first will get the jobs and fundies can do without. Yay!
BTW, you don't fool anyone. You are just too lazy to be bothered to learn anything. You let your pastor think for you!

I know a couple have clued you in already, but to make it simpler. White folk (western civilication) are a product of everything that happened in many countries. The Latin-based languages are a heavy influence on the modern Germanic (English) based ones. Our cultures are also heavily intermixed.
As to bbycakes, nice try but forget it, no ones indoctrinating you to believe, it's not History class, it's literature.
We only touched on this when I was in grade school and that it was myth, was made clear. It just shakes the faith of Christians when they discover there were other Gods that were worshipped in the past, Fundie children are sheltered from such historical facts.
"because thats againts my beleifs"
That's like me saying in politics class that I don't have to study, say, conservatism, because I disagree with it as an ideology!
There are many that have become words in English, directly or through their Roman counterparts. Helios was Sol to the Romans, the Sun, which we know is the center of the Solar System, and produces helium. Aphrodite, or Venus was the goddess of feminine beauty and love. If you're not careful with an aphrodisiac, you could get a venereal disease.
"and my religion says there is only one God that I dont have to do the reading of the book and the test for them."
Enjoy your 'F' then, babycakes.
Now look carefully in your religion. Reading between the lines, you'll discover that you'll ultimately end up having no choice but to have to do the following:
'Do you want fries with that? '
You want you country to be inferior to China, fine. Don't let me stop you being the educationally subnormal fundie you are.
You really need to study English grammar and spelling. If your post was an essay and I had a red marker, you'd have at least 10 red blots on your essay by now, and I'm not even an English teacher.
I bet your English teacher treated the Greek gods and the Odyssey as mythology, interesting stories to use as tools to teach kids English with.
I actually once got out of an English assignment (an essay on the religious symbolism in "The Grapes of Wrath"), because I told the teacher I was an atheist. I probably only got away with it because it was a "progressive" high school in the seventies. Mind you, I had to write an essay on a different theme, so it wasn't a total win.
“because thats againts my beleifs”
Doing schoolwork is against your beliefs?
What verse would that be covered under?
No one’s asking you to sacrifice to Apollo or date Circe, or fight Scylla.
But knowing the Odyssey MIGHT help you enjoy ‘Brother Where Art Thou’ a bit more, same as knowing Hamlet helps grasp ’The Lion King.’
Greek and other ancient stories pop up everywhere. If you don’t want to ever watch them, you need to be able to recognize them.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
