image I am furious with what I saw on TV last night!
I was channel surfing and sometimes I stop on EWTN to see what catholics are saying. Well they had a post abortion show. An elderly woman called in. She was the last call of the night. She expressed that she was sorrowful over an abortion she had many years ago and that she has been doing all she can to offset that sin. She was not sure if she had done all she can and was hopeful that God would forgive her despite all the works she had done. The priest basically felt her guilt and work she had done was sufficient. They then closed the show with prayer. The prayer was done through Mary and then they recited the rosary!!!!!! Yes I said the prayer was made through Mary. They have completely replaced Jesus.
I was furious that they have helped lead this woman to hell if she does not hear the gospel preached and respond before her death. I just cried and prayed for that lady, that someone would reach herwith the gospel. And I am furious that the catholic church can be so bold as to replace Christ with Mary.

Catholics replaced Jesus with Mary? Then why's some bearded guy on the crucifix at my church?
Hint: The idea is pray to Mary, who tells Jesus, who fixes things. It's just working up the hierarchy.
Zoinks, that thread is littered with people who severely need a mirror. Some say things like "my, how much we believe when we're children" and things of that nature, when talking about their indoctrination into the Catholic Church (which they're free of now, of course).
I find this hilarious, because I came from a Jewish household, and though my father bore no hostility toward (sane) Christians, he said the same thing about Christians that Protestants say about Catholics--why should Jesus come between you and God?
I am furious with what I saw on TV last night!
Is there ever a time you fundies AREN'T angry at something or other?

Now, I don't think abortion is intrinsically wrong (but it is in certain circumstances such as when the fetus is sufficiently developed i.e. it has a central nervous system), but I think that feeling bad about a wrongdoing and then trying to rectify it are both good things.
They then closed the show with prayer. The prayer was done through Mary and then they recited the rosary!!!!!!
Oh the horror. Everyone knows that Mary should be in the kitchen making sammiches, not out helping people, right?
They have completely replaced Jesus.
You debunked yourself in your own post and it was in the previous fucking sentence; this one:
Yes I said the prayer was made through Mary. See, it says THROUGH Mary and when you go through something there's usually a different destination in mind.
I was furious that they have helped lead this woman to hell if she does not hear the gospel preached and respond before her death. I just cried and prayed for that lady, that someone would reach herwith the gospel.
She's a catholic talking to a fucking priest and you think she's never had scripture preached to her? What do you think Catholics base their religion on, The Wizard of Oz?
And I am furious that the catholic church can be so bold as to replace Christ with Mary.
Replaced? Because last time I checked that wasn't Mary hanging off of the cross in front of the Catholic church in my neighborhood. But again, you debunked yourself when you said they communicated THROUGH Mary (which is actually what they do). Note: I do think it's strange that an omniscient being needs a messengers, but then again it's not as strange as said being sending his loyal followers to hell for talking to his mom.
Dude, it's not for real. It's myth and fantasy.
Some kids are afraid of monsters under the bed. They're kids and don't know better. What's your excuse?

Alright look...like all of the other saints, Mary is an intermediary. She is there to (in layman's terms) 'put in the good word' with God and Jesus.
Once a fundtard asked me, "What makes Mary holy? What makes the other saints holy?"
Their obedience to God, the good things they accomplished in his service and the favor God showed them for that obedience and service.
Mary's obedience was the most favorable, as she carried the child of her God and nurtured him in spite of the threat this created to her own physical well-being and her reputation.
I used to be catholic and I am so sick of having this conversation with fanatical fucktards who are incapable of accepting the simple explanation of Mary's (and the other saints') position of intermediary.
At least fucking bother to do some research. Then you can be a hateful bigot in a more informed way.
Prayer was done through Mary? That's odd. How very unfathomable. What a peculiar cult is Catholicism. Someone needs to explain to them the straightforward methods of prayer direct to Jesus, personally, at his midriff, while swearing fealty at His loins as you float in midair and watching in awe as He lofts His mighty sword of flame to smite atheists and Liberals. Truly He is the Son of the God of the political right.
Having said that, no doubt His Mum is proud of His achievements, and I 'spect she wouldn't mind putting in a good word for you, if you ask Her nicely.
ScoobyDoo, please cease your fury, it is uncomely to be a ranting dingbat when discussing comparative cultism. A Catholic lady I know expresses a similar fury about sinners who want to be ghosts in heavenly mansions, and I told her the same thing, i.e. that she was going to bust a coming-up-string. Although maybe she's got a point. It's all odd stuff really.
If she's Catholic, then believe me, she's heard the gospel. Catholics have heard it even though they don't worship the stupid book it's in 24/7.
Y'know, sometimes I think you fundies have replaced God with the Bible.
As for Mary, she's supposedly the freakin' Mother of God . I think she deserves at least a little reverence, or something. >_>
So, a different sect of your own faith following its rites and rituals infuriated you more than, say, a corporation trying to worm its way out of a multi-million dollar cleanup in a crisis that will affect several states, and perhaps cost billions of real world dollars in our recovering economy?
Yer priorities. Reevaluate and rearrange them.
Basically,if something goes wrong, like Jesus causes you to have a miscarridge, you can go whining to his mum, and she will tell him off. I think thats how it works.
Yeah, isn't it terrible how they replaced one fictional character with another.
or y'know, cue overly long explanation of the 'hail mary'
This is about as stupid as arguing whether pink or blue is the true color of unicorns. Unicorns
are imaginary concepts. Shall we graduate to what color garden fairies prefer to wear? Has inflation caused the tooth fairy to increase the payment per tooth? Does the tooth fairy pay differently for different types of teeth? Would a molar, let's say,be worth more or less than an incisor? Does Rudolph the red nosed reindeer always lead Santa's sleigh now? Are these any dumber than whether Mary or Jesus is the imaginary friend you pray to?
I love how, even though I've long since left my family's catholicism behind, RR never ceases to make me feel like making an account to defend the catholics. (And get immediately banned as per RR's rules.)
Wow, going so far as to deny forgiveness to a grandmother who feels genuine remorse for a legal medical procedure she later had regrets about...
I've been a commenter on FSTDT for a couple years now, but I don't think I've ever seen something as heartless as that from a fundie. Were I to wield the power of Anubis, I would make this fuck suffer every moment of every day for the rest of their miserable life. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be over in a corner and weeping for humanity, because statements like this make me doubt that we as a species have very little of it left.
"The prayer was done through Mary and then they recited the rosary!!!!!! Yes I said the prayer was made through Mary. They have completely replaced Jesus."
I thought the rosary began with the apostles' creed, "I believe in God the father, almighty creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ his only son, our Lord. Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary[...]"
"And I am furious that the catholic church can be so bold"
Yeah, freedom of religion's a bitch ain't it?
Someone worshiping my deity differently than I do? Holy shit, let's start a Crusade!
What's that? The Catholics have that copyrighted? Crap. Let's start a JIHAD then!
Who, you say?
Silly protestants, thinking the divine is waiting around just to hear their whining. If God didn't delegate authority he'd never get anything done! Intercession is just red tape put in place to make time for god's golf game.*
*please note, as an atheist I believe all the religions are talking to their own imaginary friends, but the willful ignorance of one sect of the deluded over another invites comment.

It's sad that people decide to waste their lives on this shit, isn't it? You just want to grab them and shake them until they see that it's all lies but they can't and won't. They may be stupid as well, but there's a lot of brainwashing involved. I mean, this retard as well. What a stupid thing to get upset about. Sigh. This site sometimes makes me laugh and sometimes makes me want to cry and this is one of the latter. :(
...the catholic church can be so bold as to replace Christ with Mary.
This is news to you?! Where have you been for the past, oh, 1000 years?!
They can't understand the concept of intermediary , yet
> I just cried and prayed for that lady, <
the Catholics can't get into heaven without the help of nutcase fundies doing the real praying for them. Hahahahaha.
While it is true that Catholics pray to Mary, they have not "replaced" Jesus with Mary. Maybe if you learned a little about what Catholics believe, you'd understand them a little better.
But why should anyone be offended over Catholics talking about their beliefs on a Catholic TV channel? You were just looking for a reason to be offended, weren't you?
So...you want people to feel bad about having an abortion, but not if they're Catholic?
And...asking the boss's mom to put in a good word for you is the same as worshiping the boss's mom? Wow.
I just cried and prayed for that lady
So it's OK for you to pray for the woman and place yourself as an intermediary between her and Jesus (the theological term is "intercession" ), but it's contrary to the Gospels for the woman to ask Mary to to pray for her and be an intermediary between her and Jesus?
Where in the Gospels does it say anything like that?
I'm generally in favor of a feminine presence in a religion, if religion is necessary at all.
I notice that the Catholics have engulfed and devoured those feminine apparitions (Lourdes, Guadalupe, et al) which could have engendered religions in their own right. It makes one wonder whether these 'Our Lady of...' arose from the common psyche to challenge that twisted patriarchy.
We are the Christians. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.
The Alleg-ed Virgin Mary is a substitute in both form and function for earlier Pagan fertility goddesses.
May is Mary's month, and I
Muse at that and wonder why:
Her feasts follow reason,
Dated due to season
Candlemas, Lady Day;
But the Lady Month, May,
Why fasten that upon her,
With a feasting in her honour?... - GM Hopkins
Often she is depicted as a symbolic vulva, her robes forming labia and her head, well, you get the idea.

Subliminal advertising at its finest. Pray away!
Nevermind the fact that the priest was consoling the woman and helping her overcome what had to have been a sad experience that she has had to deal with for long time...
Oh, no! They have it all wrong! Who cares what they feel! They should follow the RR form of Christianity now and always!!!11!
zOMG they replaced Jesus by Mary! How... repugnant!
Next thing you know, they've replaced Zeus by Odin.
Oh for fuck's sake!
**facepalm**
Stupid religious freaks! You're religions are so similar I can't believe you fight over the stupid little differences and not see the big stupid commonalities.
Makes you wonder if your truth is actually, quite arbitrary as apparently noone can agree on it.
I'm actually kind of heartened to see fundie fights like this. As long as the Protestant fundie Christians think that Catholics are evil, and Catholics think that Protestants are going to hell, it will make it a bit harder for them to actually establish a theocracy in this country like they would like to.
But this post does seem like he's saying, "I turned to the Catholic channel to see what those evil Catholics were up to, and sure enough, it was something I don't like!"
Who was the one who interceded when the wine ran out? Or is that not in your version of the Bible?
You did say 'through' Mary, so who was the prayer addressed to? Clearly not Mary. But then your bigotry has blinded you to that.
Then there is the inconvenient fact that the Bible contains the words: 'Hail, you who are full of grace; the Lord is with you for you are blessed above all women; and the child in your womb is blessed.' Now who could that have been addresd to? The Rosary pretty much consists of repeating those words, together with the Lord's Pray and the Glory, while meditating on incidents of Jesus's and Mary's lives. It's fine for Catholics. If you don't like it, then leave it alone and stop trying to find excuses to vent your bigotry.
When you manage to gain some self control over your hatred of Catholics. Try reading up on what they really believe before you condemn in such a stupid way.
Well I'm mad you replaced god with jesus. I imagine your mad I replaced jesus with satan. I know for sure the satanists weren't happy when I replaced them with a book club.
You see how none of that made sense? Your bullshit is a part of that. Feel ashamed.
Y'know...assuming your bullshit is true, what you should really be pissed about is that your dickheaded God will send this poor woman to hell because "she does not hear the gospel." How is that her fault? Why would God throw her in Hell because "someone" didn't "reach her with the gospel?" Sounds like that is someone else's fault...why is she Hell-bound because she never heard the gospel?
I just don't get that. It might make sense--at least according to your twisted fairy tale--if she would be sent to Hell if she heard the gospel and rejected it. But no--you think she is going to Hell even if she never hears the gospel and has the chance to choose to accept or reject it.
Of course, that's all bullshit, because as a Catholic, she has heard the gospel repeatedly, and accepts it, and knows and believes that Jesus died for her sins, just like you do.
Of course, it's all bullshit anyway. Glad I am not enslaved by a fairy tale!
That's not how Catholicism works at all. You're not praying to Mary, you're asking Mary to pray for you.
"Hail Mary, Mother of God, PRAY for us sinners..."
The key word there is PRAY.
I love how Christians are always at each others throats. I love how "one true" religions can never decide on which version is true.
LOL, I just tried to register on Rapture Ready as JesusWouldBeBannedHere, and I got the following message:
You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.
Date the ban will be lifted: Never
Then they changed my username to "i am Banned here" (just like that, with "Banned" the only word that was capitalized).
"Roman catholicism is nothing more than paganism with some "christian" thrown in to look like something it isn't. A conglomeration of paganistic rituals and practices that throw out Sola Scriptura."
Post 11 in that thread.
My comment... Fixed?
Christianity is nothing more than paganism with some "christian" thrown in to make it look like something it isn't. Paganistic rituals and all. Sorry if you don't like that. You can continue shutting your eyes and saying "NO IT ISN'T" all you want, but it won't change a damn thing.
Though I generally don't understand what the hell it is you people get so pissy about in minor differences of belief. This time I think I know.
You're a moron.
Catholicism uses Mary and the saints as intermediaries between the individual followers of the faith and God. This is the same belief in the lack of a direct relationship with God that was a factor in leading to the protestant reformation.
So yeah, congratulations on reaching 16th century religious thinking, but I think you might want to contact a physician about the imbalance of your humors that causes such anger at other people for not believing exactly the same things you do.
Standard Fundie "Catholics are all going to Hell because Catholicism is a cult" tripe. Never mind that Catholicism, for its first few centuries, WAS Christianity, and it was CATHOLIC leaders who picked out what writings go into that book you all take oh-so-literally. "Soli Scriptura" was advanced by Martin Luther centuries after the canon was in place. So to say that Soli Scriptura was "replaced" by a "conglomeration of pagan practices... (post 11 in their thread, ty symbiosychotic) is just wrong. FAIL
The Fundies have it bass-ackwards, again.
Ehhhh.
You really believe in a God who feels this poor woman's guilt and sorrow and then sends her to Hell because she earnestly seeks advice but gets sent to the wrong party?
Sounds like the Catholics are worshipping a more Christian God than you.
Wow...just wow. I'm trying to figure out how and why. Now I'm Atheist, but Mary isn't just some minor filler character in the Bible, she's Jesus' freaking mother. Wouldn't it make logical sense to pray to Mary on behalf of another woman mourning the loss of a child she never gave birth to? Oh, right, Christianity and logic. HAHAHA.
Lord Jesus, although our country turned protestant for the soleful reason that our fat mean King could dump his faithful wife, we know you're on our side. So please destroy these horrible monsters who believe your mother should be revered. -Rev. Lovejoy
