Do you know that there is no such thing as an atheist? Its true friend, for if you were an atheist you would believe in absolutley, positively nothing, not even what you see in front of you or all around you. Atheist believe in absolutley nothing not even in the things that surround them. However, you friend are what they call an Agnostic. Which means you believe in what you see around you but you do not believe in a Higher Power, such as God.

atheism does not equal nihilism.
I believe in a lot of things, such as the fact that you are an idiot. I just refuse to believe things for which there is no evidence. In this case, the evidence that you are an idiot is that you do not know the difference betwen atheism and nihilism.
No. You need to consult a good dictionary. The only thing which defines an atheist is not believing in an god. We believe in lots of other things. I believe in love, reason, the scientific method, the goodness of my friends, the loyalty of my dogs and that you're an asshat and a mental flyweight.
OK...Merriam-Webster, which is arguably the definitive work on the modern American English vocabulary disagrees with you.
"Atheist (N) One who believes there is no deity. "
"Agnostic (N) 1. A person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god. 2. A person unwilling to commit to an opinion about something <political agnostics>."
Both of these terms (theologically speaking) deal only with a person's beliefs about a deity, and nothing else. Not the world around you, just the concept of a deity.
Anyone for Fundie Word Redefinition award?
Yes, because the "theist" part of Atheist comes from the greek root "theo-" which doesn't mean god, oh no, it means "everything". dumbass.
NO. NO FUCKING NO.
agnostic = without knowledge
atheist = lack of belief in any kind of god
Most atheists are agnostic atheists, who don't believe in god but do admit to the possibility of one existing that we just haven't found. However, they also tend to compare the likelihood of this being the case to unicorns (or any other imaginary being) being real and nobody discovering them yet.
Atheists do not disbelieve in everything. The only, and I mean only requirement to be considered an atheist is to not believe in any sort of god.
Dear Anonymous,
You are just a bit confused about things: fundamentalists believe in god but not what their eyes see, atheists believe in what their eyes see but not in god. I hope this helps. Have a nice day.
Actually a nihilist believes in things, they just don't beleive in a deeper meaning for things and events.
What anonny here has described, if it has a name, is a-omnisim. (since even solipsism beleive in the exitence of the concious mind.)
Atheists, indeed, may be tempted to believe in something, only that that something may not match your expectations.
"Atheist believe in absolutley nothing not even in the things that surround them."
Even nihilists believe in stuff that they would find around them, hence you, friend , I'd think, are a fucking moron.
@JDChambers, papabear et al
Ooooo, dangerous! If they dared to actually crack open a dictionary - instead of their sacred Holy Writ - they'd learn all sorts of dangerous concepts such as the fact that 'Sin' is defined as transgression of divine law, or going against the rules laid down by a deity. But since we Atheists don't recognise, acknowledge or accept the existence of (a) deity(ies), then we can't go against said deities' laws, therefore we can't be sinners!
And where would that leave them, in their continued (but ultimately futile) attempts to lay upon us the guilt trip of 'Turn or Burn' - if we're not afraid of the threat of the Lake O'Fire?! .
"you would believe in absolutley, positively nothing, not even what you see in front of you or all around you"
Projecting, much? Also living in that river in Egypt, much? That's why you cling to that precious security blankie of 'Faith', with the comforting belief that you'll go to that nice place called 'Heaven' when you cark it. Because you're utterly terrified of the alternative: when you're dead, you're DEAD. As in Finito. Goodnight Vienna. GAME OVER. As in Wormfoodsville. Population: YOU.
DICTIONARY. Find one, then look up atheist. Second though, look up "Dictionary" first, cuz you clearly don't ever read one.
"you do not believe in a Higher Power, such as God."
What do you mean "God" singular? To be a theist you have to believe in every god imaginable , otherwise you don't qualify using a definition I just made up this second which is every bit as valid as your own definitions of atheism and agnosticism.
See how that doesn't work?
Atheists exist. Agnostics exist, I'm one of them. I however, if I was an atheist, would believe that my pizza, table, and everything else existed. If I didn't, I'd be batshit crazy.
Do you know that there is no such thing as a Christian? Its true anonymous, for if you were a Christian you would believe that Jesus returned within one generation of his death, as he said he would. Christians believe in what Jesus said not what pretenders like Paul said. However, you friend are what they call a heretic. Which means you believe what makes you feel good, not in what Jesus had to say.
Guess you can tell, I've played this game before Anonymous.
"Atheist believe in absolutley nothing not even in the things that surround them."
I believe you're a fucking idiot, so does that make me an "atheist that believes in something"?
Jonathan Edwards . Also, 'OSA S'.
The fact that your entire 'argument' is now reduced to the kind of state a demon in "DOOM IV" is after being 'Glory Kill'-ed by the Doom Marine is the least of your problems.
Cyberdemon, Hell Guard or Spider Mastermind (via an Argent Energy-based lobotomy with the BFG-9000), your choice. >:D
“Do you know that there is no such thing as an atheist?”
As an atheist, i have to say, no, i don’t know that.
“Its true friend, for if you were an atheist you would believe in absolutley, positively nothing, not even what you see in front of you or all around you.”
That’s not what ‘atheist’ means, idiot.
"Atheist believe in absolutley nothing not even in the things that surround them.”
Strawman.
“However, you friend are what they call an Agnostic.”
What _I_ can an agnostic is someone who doesn’t believe that a mortal can have a personal relationship with the divine, As opposite of a gnostic, who believes that they can. And must.
“Which means you believe in what you see around you but you do not believe in a Higher Power, such as God”
So, all that to tell me that you don’t know what ‘atheist’ means, and i remain an atheist. You owe me 35 seconds of my life back.
Confused?
