A cult according to the Word of God is any group of people that worship anything or anyone other than Jesus Christ, and believe anything contrary to His Word as found in the Bible. With that in mind, we must believe that anyone, who claims to know or preach that there is any other way to reach, or know God other than the Lord Jesus Christ is "THE ANTICHRIST" because this is what Jesus has told us in His word.

So who do the Children of God, Christian Scientists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, Roman Catholics, Seventh Day Adventists and United Pentecostals worship, then? Muhammad?
P.S., you forgot Freemasonry (I know it's not a religion, but this crew thinks it's a Satanic cult).
" and believe anything contrary to His Word as found in the Bible."
According to whose interpretation?
And don't give me that divine inspiration holy spirit BS.
I'm sorry, but the word "cult" does not appear in the KJV, unless there is some other Word of God Anon is referring too.
Also, that Old Testament bit of the Word of God? Thay started life as Judaism's holy book, so I hardly think they would identify themselves as a "cult."

So... what do atheists worship?
And Evolutionism?
Is gravity-ism also a cult?
A cult according to the Word of Allah is any group of people that worship anything or anyone other than Allah, and believe anything contrary to His Word as found in the Koran.

LOL
You are either a gnostic theist or an agnostic theist. Agnostic theism is unreasonable while gnostic theism has a burden of proof. Either admit you are unreasonable or show us the overwhelming evidence for your god(s).

So, basically, a cult is every single religion and domination that's not your own domination of Christianity?
cult [kuhlt]noun
1. a particular system of religious worship,
4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing,
Woah, would you look at that, Christianity fits two of the definitions of "cult."
Here's a tip: ALL religions are cults. The only difference between a religion and a cult is the number of followers.
If you're going to list several Christian denominations as cults, then you better list your own denomination.
And funny how they list "gnosticism" as a cult when I'm betting whoever made this list is a gnostic Christian, that is, they claim to know that God exists. And since they also list agnosticism as a cult, then I guess everyone on the entire planet belongs to a cult.
Jeez, they forgot the Copts, the Syriacs, the Orthodox, the Uniates, the Old Believers, the ...
"A cult according to the Word of God"
Unless there was a new Holy Book with which you agree with after the term was first used in the 17th century, you are full of shit.
"Bahaism"
Ok, first of all that would be Bahá'íism or Bahá'ísm, but as both of those are orthographical nightmares it is commonly refered to as Bahá'í Faith.
Judaism
How did Judaism get on that list? It's the basis for Christianity.
And where's that new, supposedly Christian cult, the "Tea Party"?
The "Tea Party" people are CHINOs, "Christian In Name Only". ;-)
@Grimsoncrow: This is actually the only sense in which the term "antichrist" occurs in the Bible itself, e.g.:
2 John 1:7: For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
1 John 2:22: Who is a Liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
The idea that that there is a single man who is "The Antichrist," often identified with the Beast of Revelation, is a later development.
Hmm, I do accept evolution is true, but I can't recall worshipping the ToE.
P.S. The Bible also tells you that since many of us would work toward your having a revolation and accepting the ToE, you are obligated to kill us. Better get on with God's work, Anonymous Chicken.

He cherry-picks the Bible. For instance, to show the absurd notion that Roman Catholics aren't "real" Christians, he suggests they "worship" Mary. But Catholics don't worship Mary; they "invoke" (request) her to "intercede" (pray to God on behalf of someone else). Christians of all stripes occasionally invoke people to intercede, when for example, they ask people to pray for a sick neighbor. His own example, the "Hail Mary" prayer, contains the line "pray for us sinners", making it obvious that they're not praying to Mary but invoking intercession. While Catholics and Protestants disagree on whether one may invoke someone who is already dead, neither position is supported by scripture.
He complains about celibacy of priests. While there's no requirement of celibacy in the Bible, Paul was celibate, and said in 1 Corinthians 7:6-7 "I wish that all were as I myself am [celibate]. But each has his own special gift from God, one of one kind and one of another". So it's ridiculous to claim one must be married and have sex in order to be a real Christian.
He complains further that Catholics require good works rather than faith alone. But James 2:24 says "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only." Luther got around this by calling James an "epistle of straw". He also complains that "They believe that the church is founded upon the apostle Peter". But again, Mat. 16:18-19 says "And I [Jesus] say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock (the name "Peter" means rock, so this is a bit of word-play) I will build my church ... And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Most of the rest of his objections are neither contrary to the Bible nor supported by it.
A cult according to the Word of God is any group of people that worship anything or anyone other than Jesus Christ, and believe anything contrary to His Word as found in the Bible.
Children of God, Christian Science, Gnosticism, Christian Identity, Jehova's Witness, Mormonism, Roman Catholicism, Seventh Day Adventism, Unification Church, Unitarian Universalism, and United Pentacostal Church are not cults by that definition. You said that all they have to do is worship Jesus and believe in his word. What you meant to say was "A cult is any group of people that's not exactly like me". THEN those all fit the definition.
Just what the world needs, another bunch of brain-blasted Revelataion Zombies.

Kind of says it all. They're a fucking Death Cult, and their denial ("It's everyone else!") is a clear sign of mental illness. Of course, it could be only one greedy troll with a paypal account.
Anything contrary to His Word, eh?
The Bible contradicts itself quite often... so the Bible is contrary to His Word.
Ergo, the Bible is a cult...
Further, since the Bible is His Word, and since the Bible contradicts the Bible, then His Word is contrary to His Word and God Himself is The AntiChrist!
With that in mind
With that in mind, I hope you enjoy the massive and unsolvable paradox you have just foisted on yourself...
"The term 'cult' was originally used to describe a group of people who worshiped a deity. The term was first used in the early 17th century denoting homage paid to a deity and borrowed via the French 'culte' from Latin 'cultus' "worship", from the adjective 'cultus' "inhabited, cultivated, worshiped", derived from the verb 'colere' "care, cultivate.""
Sounds like any religion fits this definition...
And atheism ISN'T a religion...
@ Grimsoncrow : You wrote:
"One antichrist was not enough? so now there's thousands..."
Actually, there have always been multiple antichrists. Even the Bible says so. Take a look at 1 John 2:18 :
"Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour."
(Note the plural!)
Uhh, no. That's instead the definition of the word 'cult' according to members of one particular cult that presumes the Bible to possess some inherent authority, for no reason other than superstitious personal faith.
Actually according to your definition, the following would not be cults:
Agnosticism
Atheism
Buddhism
Children of God
Christian Science
Islam
Jehovah's Witnesses
Judaism
Mormonism
Roman Catholicism
Satanism
Unification Church
UnitarianUniversalism
United Pentecostal Church
Voodoo
You might note that Atheism is the least culty thing by EAEC's definition since by definition, atheists don't believe in any supernatural entity, so do not believe anything that is not the Bible. Though that non-belief is extended to the Bible, their definition only includes believing in things, not non-belief.
Evolutionism isn't a thing. You either accept that evidence that supports evolution as fact, your you believe in something else. Agreement with evidence is not belief as belief relies on uncertainty of existence.
For example, Bob knows that cats exist, because his neighbor has one that likes to play in Bob's yard. That isn't belief, but Bob believes that unicorns exist, because he's read about them in story books. He doesn't have any evidence to support unicorns existing, thus his opinion is classified as belief.
John, I tend to disagree in part about the Catholics not worshipping Mary, at least in my opinion. Many Catholics, I think worship Mary in the same way that Muslims worship Mohammad. They may not believe that Mohammad or Mary are gods (even though in some cases you get titles like Mary is the Co-creator of Being or Co-savior; effectively making her a demigoddess). When one starts include your (supposedly not divine) person in your prayers to your god and start ascribing divine attributes to them, as well as building statues of them in your places of worship, I think it then becomes worship, even if it's not admitted to. Even if Muslims won't admit that they worship Mohammad, they'll make claims that Allah made Mohammad the most perfect human being, and that sounds pretty divine to me. It's just a matter of degree and there is a thin line between devotion and respect and full-blown worship. Catholics and Muslims straddle the line when it comes to "honoring" Mary and Mohammad respectively. In the case of Catholics, they still claim to worship God and Jesus, but Mary gets at least as much attention for one that they don't admit to being divine.
Let's see, she is NOT a goddess, and was a normal woman BUT Mary:
* Had a virgin birth and was immune to original sin.
* Ascended into heaven without dying.
* Now goes by the title Queen of Heaven, Co-Savior, and Co-Creator.
* Is now the one whom you pray to when you want her son (who is God) to interceede. You can't ask him directly, you'll want to pray to Mary first.
* She appears in countless visions and religious experiences, more than either her son or his dad.
She's all of these things...but she's not a goddess, and they definitely don't worship her. Right.
Again, this is just my opinion.
Cult: "a small religious group that is not part of a larger and more accepted religion and that has beliefs regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous"
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cult
This pretty much covers every single variation of "mainstream Christianity". Unfortunately for the poster, every single branch or sect (Baptists, Assembly of God, Methodists, etc.) of Christianity is simply a variation on Catholocism.
As "cult" is derived from Latin, you won't find the word in the original languages of the Bible. However, "cultus" does appear in the Vulgate and simply means "worship." So the worship of those other than Jesus Christ is worship. Hand a cigar to that man.

> I've met people from a number of cults and all of them had been brainwashed by their religious leaders. ... The cult member has been told the same lies so many times that they believe it is true. They have been told that their group is the "only one" that has the truth. They may have also been told that the world considers their group a cult. They have been told that disciples of Jesus have to undergo the same persecution that Jesus did. You are talking to a person that thinks they are right.

Someone must have pointed it out already, but why do people always assume that Roman Catholic Church is the same as Catholicism? We have some 20 autonomous Churches, from Albanian to Ukrainian! They all recognize themselves as part of one family and so on. So why does it have to be Roman, uh?
Also, someone conveniently forgot about Orthodoxy, both Eastern and Oriental. Again.
@Dyz
I'm pretty sure he's not referring to gnostic, as the opposite of agnostic, but to Gnosticism, the Christian sect that originated the idea of the "Demiurge" as used by several FSTDTers.
Chapter and verse where the Bible says that His Chosen People is a cult, please.
Roman Catholicism is the beginning of every Christian denomination, stupid, except the Orthodox ones. IF the RC is a cult, then all the Protestants, Baptists, and other breakaway denominations are DEFINITELY cults.
Do you believe that you ought to sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor?
If not, then you're a cult, as this is what Jesus told you in His Word.
Confused?
