Stephen Hawking was regarded by his peers as the smartest scientist since Albert Einstein, his book entitled A Brief History Of Time sold over 10 million copies. But Stephen Hawking and his celebrated intellect was unable to grasp one simple truth that my kids all had a hold of before the age of 10. That everyone of us are sinners who need a Saviour, and that Jesus Christ is the promised Messiah of Israel who paid our sin debt on the cross 2,000 years ago. Ironically, in the same words where he steadfastly denied the very existence of the God of the Bible, he said he was ‘grateful for the grand design’ of the universe. Hmm—.any first year art student will tell you that without a Designer there can be no design. Hawking at this very moment is hyper-aware of the reality that God does exist, that Jesus Christ is the only way, and that Heaven is real. But sadly, that information does him no good now. He died in his sins with no one to pay for them but himself. Want to be smarter than the smartest man in the world? Ask Jesus to save you on the basis of His death, burial and resurrection, and when you die, instead of burning in a fiery Hell reserved for the Devil, his angels and the unsaved, you’ll be in Heaven with Jesus. Heaven or Hell? You don’t need a college education to see which one of the those two things is better.
