Happy Columbus Day! On this special holiday, those who cherish Western Civilization celebrate the stalwart hero who bestowed it upon the formerly savage New World.
Those who despise civilization express their contempt for it by demonizing the great Christopher Columbus and/or by subverting this holiday to revere instead the pre-wheel Stone Age culture whose displacement he enabled, which was characterized by brutality and sometimes cannibalism, and which enabled only meager subsistence. There are 364 other days of the year they could have chosen to honor Amerindians. They chose this one specifically to dishonor Columbus. John Cornyn’s 24-year Senate career curled up and died soon after he pushed Juneteenth as a federal holiday out of obsequiousness to Black Lives Matter rioters. There could be a lesson there for Thune.
