“Of course Harry Potter isn't about Christianity. The reasons it opposes Christianity is that it supports magic.”
And yet, Harry constantly tries to go the right thing by Christain standards… Fight evil, save friends, not be racist, turn his bitchy aunt into an eclair, all the usual stuff.
“Magic is bad according to Christians.”
Well, some magic. Not God’s magic, that’s okay.
“In the old testament you were commanded to kill anyone who was a witch.”
Technically, it was a prohibition about allowing poisoners to live, but very strangely, the people who made King James’ copy knew that King James had a problem with witches, and gave him god’s authority to persecuted them.
“So you don't think kids really get into Harry Potter adn try to do magic and stuff?”
My kids play D&D and Pathfinder, and read all the Harry Potter books.
When the basement flooded, they asked if i was going to call a plumber.
Not one of them suggested a ‘Lower Water’ spell. Or that I raise my hands like Moses and cross the Red Basement.
“Ok, that's you opinion.”
That’s my experience.
“All I want to ask is when is the last time you worked with kids?”
I’ raised three from very early on in their lives.
“L[ord]O[f]T[he]R[ings] is alright because magic isn't it's main theme”
No, of course not, because THE RING had a perfectly secular power to control the perfectly secular wizards, the elves, the dwarves… The main antagonists are alive only by magic or else they would not be antagonists…
“and if you know anything about the books the only people who could use magic were semi-gods sent from the west (or god) to help battle Sauron.”
I’ve read the books a couple of times.
Frodo and Bilbo used magic. The Wizards use magic. The elves had magic rings. Sauron’s ring was really big magic, as was his necromancy. Tom Bombadil was fucking MADE of wild magic. Trolls were creatures that turned to stone if sunlight hit them, that’s not mundane biology, The Balrog was magic, as was Gandalf’s fate.
Magic runs ALL THROUGH those books, it’s just not flashy like fireballs. You are an idiot.
“It's the Christian idea of God sending the Holy Spirit to empower and help us in our daily struggle against Satan.”
Yes. With magic. LOTS of magic.
SOME Christains are against LOTR exactly because Tolkien was Catholic.
