[Responding to an article stating that thousands of churches will be using fair trade, sustainably harvested palm fronds for Palm Sunday.]
"Fair Trade Palm Fronds?" YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!! Is that what they used when Christ entered Jerusalem? C'mon, Church!! You're getting so politically correct, is causing SICKNESS!!!! Are you really believers, or just CHRINO's (Christians in name only)!!??!!

Huh? Fair trade makes them less holy or something?
(To be fair, if this was RR, it would be a natural comment as they firmly believe in wearing out this planet as fast as possible because revelations said to... but in other parts of the internets - yikes.)
Damn straight, Jeebus would have only used Republican - approved, slave labour raised, genetically modified fronds sprayed with DDT and 245T. Jayzuz don't use no goddamned hippy fronds.
Wow. I would of thought that Fair Trade was a very Christian thing to do...
Apparently the rule is that if the chuch didn't come up with it first, no matter how good an idea it is, you don't get to do it.
"Is that what they used when Christ entered Jerusalem?"
YES, DIPSHIT!!! Did you think they came from Wal-Mart??????????
Bizarro. The word 'fair' is considered sinful to these whackos. Anything associated with responsibility, conservation, some reduction in materialism, better labor practice is what these spiteful wackos hate. It is their christian duty to pollute, to consume, to spend, to enslave, etc. Remember, God hates fags, Ireland, Sweden, environmentalism (=pagan=satan), clean water, thinking, learning, anyone who disagrees with teh fundie wackos, etc. These assholes would have us living like Saudi Arabia in no time if they ever got any real political power.
What's wrong with paying people what their effort is worth, even when there aren't laws to say you have to, and in the process giving them and their kids some sort of real life instead of one in which they barely scrape by and are completely miserable?
Technically yes, they would of been "Fair Trade Palm Fronds".
Doesn't the bible say a bunch of shit about taking care of the poor? Who the fuck is a Christian in name only?
This is one of those guys who, if a liberal had come up with the idea of brushing your teeth every day, he'd be walking around with a mouth full of green, stinking teeth.
Admit it, dgnymn, someone told you that "dem dammed lieberals" support fair trade, and you had a pavlovian reaction.
"Are you really believers, or just CHRINO's (Christians in name only)!!??!!"
Yeah. They're just being Christians because they thought it was the cool thing to do.
*sigh* Read: "I can't be nice, because niceness is what my political opponents do all the time."
> "Fair Trade Palm Fronds?" YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!! Is that what they used when Christ entered Jerusalem?
Oh heck yes! Grown in natural locations of the trees, without weird chemical additives, and everyone who wanted a palm frond probably had to go and pick one themselves - no sign of cost-inflating, minimum-wage-slave-driving middlemen there. Definitely fair trade principles at work, there!
So let me ge this straight...
You're upset because somebody, somewhere is paying someone a fair wage to plant palm trees and harvest palm fronds so you can have a continuous supply of them up the wazoo for Palm Sundays for ever and ever?
OH THE HORROR!!!!!!!!
Seriously, get a life.
Knew y'all would like this one! I went quote-mining at the Christian Post, clicked on that article, thought, "Well, those are Christians who are doing something nice in the name of their God! Cool!", then figured some idiot or other would object on precisely those grounds. As you can see, dgnymn did not disappoint.
@ DaMentalFunism: You got 4 thumbs-ups and no thumbs-downs!
This is a prime example of how fundamentalism, like many forms of fanaticism, is less about a coherent set of values and opinions than it is about simple tribal identification. "Fair trade" and "eco" are code words that mean "secular liberalism," which is The Enemy of the faith. Therefore, ATTACK! And the need for any more sophisticated consideration of the facts of the particular case, and the moral implications thereof, is conveniently eliminated.
That's how a self-identified Christian can complain about other Christians using a product that isn't produced through the brutal exploitation of Jesus's favored group, poor people, and not see any contradiction.
Back when I was a little Christian and made to attend church by my parents, Palm Sunday was my favorite church day, but only because my brother and I would take the palm fronds and weave them into crosses and shit, and actually have something entertaining to do rather than listen to the church service.
That said, why do you hate the planet so much?
So, anything associated with "atheism" is bad -- and it appears that environmentalism happens to be one of those things...
As a person that has to live on this planet, I say, fuck you, asshole.
Let me trace this crooked line of thought:
Fair trade = liberal = hippie = politically correct language Nazis.
I'm pretty sure Christ backs a fair wage for hard-working people with little political power.
Because caring for the poor and helping them out is totally the opposite of what Jesus FUCKING TOLD YOU TO DO.
All "Fair trade" means is that the people responsible for growing and harvesting the palm fronds are being paid a living wage. All "sustainably harvested" means is that they're making sure the soil is still usable four years from now, instead of being totally leeched of nutrients.
Both basically mean that the farmers can continue to provide fronds for Palm Sunday indefinitely. Learn what the fucking terms mean before you condemn them!
They´re doing EXACTLY WHAT JESUS SAID, because, first and foremost, they have to be fair to their brothers and sisters. Not everything that is a modern idea is bad by default.
CHRINOs? Jeez, your replies are so weak, you have to call your own kind idiots?
Wait, that's CIRNOs.
Well, still. No True Scotsman up in this bitch.
> Yes, Jesus would totally hate making small changes in his purchasing practices
Correct. It's the same kind of token good deed the pharisees did. You're supposed to give all your belongings away and live in voluntary poverty.
"Fair Trade Palm Fronds?" YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!! Is that what they used when Christ entered Jerusalem? C'mon, Church!! You're getting so politically correct, is causing SICKNESS!!!!"
...so - as per your previous 'Anyone but Obama' Golden Boy Mitt 'Magic Pants' Romney, who of course is soooooo not a 'RINO' (Repubican In Name Only); you lot needed him in mid-late 2012, natch! [/hyper-sarcasm] - you prefer Outsourcing to maximise profits for the fat white RINO W.A.S.P.s you really worship, like the good little Faux News/Rush Limburger/pastor indoctrinated right-wing Fundamental ist Christain sheeple you are, amirite?! Okay, but remember: you said it, I didn't...:

PROTIP: way before Obama was nominated, your precious God-Emperor George Dumbya Bush - to keep your country's economy afloat - borrowed $1.5-2 billion a day from China. Thus the worldwide recession, ergo the US being effectively owned by the PRC. Are you really patriots, or just CHINOs (Chinese in Name Only)...?! [/mega-paradox]
