Homosexual attraction is a symptom of an underlying psychological disorder. Like any other chronic mental disorder, the person needs to accept and take responsibility to manage the symptoms of the disorder. One cannot blame the disorder for unhealthy and self-destructive choices (destructive of mental, emotional, physical and spiritual functioning). That someone is "okay" with being "gay" does not render the disorder suddenly non-pathological. A comparable example is someone afflicted with bipolar disorder.

Says you. Last I checked, the American Psychiatric Association disagreed. (I hope I got the name of the group right, but it's something along those lines.)
I've always found it amusing that these people claim that being gay is a choice, and is therefore something that someone can change about himself. Then, when you turn it right around and bring up the fact that religion is definitely a choice, they're up in arms that "No, my faith chose me!" and other such silliness.
They seem utterly unable to see it.

No, not really. As I myself am bipolar, I can tell you it fucks you over much more than being gay. Being gay wouldn't affect people's every day lives if people were to accept that there's nothing wrong with it or, at minimum, it isn't anybody's goddamn business. Bipolar, on the other hand... Well, experiance is the best way to know. I'll leave it at this: Without some level of treatment, you can go from normal, to so confident everything will go your way you blow your life savings in short order, and then suddenly jump to feeling suicidal. In severe cases, it can change within minutes, multiple times a day. In the most severe: hallucinations. Sorry, homosexuality doesn't hold a candle.
You're absolutely right, Napoleon the Clown. My wife and I had to identify and cope with (w/dr's help and meds) her bi-polar disorder. After being together for a long while now, we (read, I) were a hair's breadth from divorce. It was a problem for a LONG time before treatment, and treatment also took a LONG time. I know it was tough on her but it is also quite tough on the folks dealing with the afflicted. Before recognizing the disorder you wonder why your mostly happy wife picks a fight with you for nothing or sometimes after complimenting her! She was all over the place, mentally. And the topper? She IS a born-again, ex-evangelical, NEC who's mother pushes her to watch the 700 club and read p robertson books. Seriously. The M in Law and I were embroiled in a major fight one night because I asked her to site a reference for whatever her biblical claim was, and she kept bringing out P robertson literature. She couldn't show me a bit of proof that didn't come from the 700 club and I told her to forget it. I said, "any one but him" and she couldn't do it.
Yeah, fundyism is every bit as scary as bi-polar. (you think some of the posters here are paranoid, you should've heard my wife before her meds!)
And, as we all know, people with psychological disorders are always able to self-diagnose flawlessly, and overcome their disorder with willpower alone, so therefore having such a disorder is no excuse for anything!
Not that I'm agreeing homosexuality is a psych disorder, of course, it's not - but everyone else here has ripped apart that bit of the post, so I felt like finishing off the remainder!
Ok, if you give this to them, Yes it is a disorder. Does that mean they would be more loving toward gays? Nope, they would still hate them. That argument is silly. They would not treat gay people the way the would treat other people with mental illnesses.
Seconding Brain_In_A_Jar's comment, let's see that fucktard getting a psychological or neurochemical disorder, clinical depression for example, and try to "[responsibly] manage the symptoms of the disorder"...
For something to be declared a mental disorder, a prime defining factor is whether or not it impairs a person's day to day living. The average homosexual can live an unassisted, long, happy life, albeit with railing from jackasses like yourself. Thus, it's not a mental disorder, or at least not one worth tying up rooms and treating. Bugger off. I'll live my life, you live yours. Keep your ear off my bedroom door, and you'll be a lot happier.
Confused?
