Answer me this, if the Bible contradictions represent such a clear proof of its unworthiness, then why is it that scholars on both sides of the fence continue spending entires lives investigating the matter? You don't see anyone spending their life investigating the phlogiston theory or the blood humors theory any more, do you?

Many people are lost for many years in flawed philosophy too. Some spend years evading reality playing RPGs too. It doesn't make those flawless ideal pursuits. It's fine to find some ancient literature inspiring. Then there is the fear of death and the human tendency to want to fantasize it away. It's another thing to quote mine from ancient scripture or to interpret it in ways intended to dictate how others should live, or if they deserve to live.

Another problem is when ancient scripture not intended to be science, is used to deny reality and reject science's discoveries. In many cases this is part of deception to manipulate and exploit people. In some cases it is physically harmful, where even proper medicine is rejected, or where physical abuse is justified using ancient verses.

Yes, there are plenty of contradictions and that is expected in a compilation, one of the reasons there are many "harmonies", other than to simplify the presentation of an ideology. Scholars attempt to put those texts in their proper context and that's the best way to study the scriptures.

As for phlogiston and blood humors, you would be surprised: there's actually plenty of quackery appealing to discredited beliefs. Chinese traditional medicine, Homeopathy, "Christian Science healing", Accupuncture, etc.
