[Why do some people die during exorcisms?]
Maybe the exorcism set them free! This would true if there was peacefulness before death that was not there earlier. That is my opinion.

If there was "peacefulness" before death, they wouldn't be dead .
@ Zeus Almighty: So much win. I'm still laughing as I type this.
@ Orestes:
Sadly, yes.

The most famous case of someone who was killed during an exorcism: Anneliese Michel .
Several of those stories involve autistic children, who were targeted because of the behaviors that children with autism tend to naturally have. It's one of the saddest, most appalling abuses of children imaginable.
Reminds me of the burning of the witches in the medieval ages.
AFAIK it was reasoned by the people from the inquisition, that the fire purifies the soul of the witch so that the soul (after a short stay in the purgatory) could still ascend to heaven, intead of having an eternity in hell.
(and that therefore it would even be beneficial for the witch to be burned to death).
Beliefs like this however are outdated by several hundred years and sould have no place in modern society anymore.
Well, according to lots of indices however, christian fundamentalists seem to (mentally) live several hundred years in the past, so statements like that from Henri411 should be no surprise
Another one of the answer.
"Usually it is because of deprivation of sleep, food, and water during the rites of exorcism. Sometimes it is because of fright or extreme stress."
... plus beating in some cases. Basically from what I seen they try to "abuse" the demon out of a person...
Oh wait, Vietnamese were not torturing US soldiers! They're exorcising the demons out of them!
P.S. Too far?
It has been proven* that the exorcist is the one possessed by the demon Torquemada. The subject (victim) is invariably free of that affliction.

*Prove that it hasn't been proven, sucka!
Wow! I'm submitting that answer for publication in the next edition of "The Big Book of Religious Excuses, or How To Hide a Truckload of Bullshit Under an Ocean of Bullshit"
Look for it in the New Age/Religion section of your favorite book store.
Why do some people die during exorcisms?
Because the idiots that perform them are murderous barbarians who know that death might occur as a result of the continued enjoyment of their perverted entertainment. Does that give them pause for thought?
Maybe the exorcism set them free!
I don't think most of them would consider being murdered a form of freedom.
This would true if there was peacefulness before death that was not there earlier.
Probably because they passed out from pain or lack of oxygen.
That is my opinion.
I sure that doesn't stop you from trying to pass it off as fact.
Sorry, Henri 411, your opinion is heresy, and you're going to burn in Hell. Any *real* fundamentalist would know that people die during exorcism because their "neck is broken by the demon" to avoid being cast back into Hell.
Confused?
