When I graduated from high school in 1965, I didn't know one gay person. Not a classmate, not a relative, not a celebrity. Now we are surrounded...
Were that many people in the closet? I don't think so!
Anymore, since there are so many open gay lifestyles, I am beginning to think that many are "choices" of rebellion. I use to think gays were born gay and I still think that in certain cases, but that doesn't mean a person has to act on these impulses anymore than any other personality or mental disorders. One gets help!
In less than 50 years look what has happened to this world. It truly makes me ill but the Lord warned us so we can't be surprised.

Oh Sweetie, I bet you did too. Besides Rock Hudson (heavily closeted) and Liberace (just in denial) there was Paul Lynde who was as camp as a Scout Jamboree. I can't say specifics about your friends, but I bet if you look back honestly? you'll realize there were a few who were a tad lighter in the loafers than you thought at the time.
Actually HFJ, there was that many in the closet. Many died while in the closet. If they did come out, they faced stigmatization and were considered mentally ill. Now there's just a bunch of bigots such as yourself that still thinks that way 50 years later.
Freddie Mercury comes to mind, and, if we go back further, Oscar Wilde. And I am just scratching the surface.

Firstly, homosexuality is not a personality or mental disorder. Secondly, consensual sex of whatever flavour need not consider the sensibilities of drooling idiots who think they're special fliers for a nonexistent genocidal wizard.
What was it you were you droning on about personality and mental disorders?
Well, yeah, right. Or perhaps your joints have deteriorated since then and you are generalizing way too much. "See, it ain't me that's an old geezer getting more defective by the year, it's everyone else around me!"
When I graduated high school in 2006, I didn't know one fundamentalist. Now they're trying to infiltrate the government, routinely deny the rights of other human beings, and attempting to impose their insane "morality" on other people.
"Where that many people in the closet?" Yep. Mainly because of stigma and persecution from people like you.
Look at Lou Reed as an example; forced to undergo electro-shock therapy for his same sex attraction when growing up in the fifties. No wonder so many people stayed in the closet in that dishonest, conformist time.

Gee, I can't imagine why a gay person wouldn't identify themselves to someone like you.
I'm mentally ill (SPD) and I don't need help, from anyone, ever, which is largely why I'm disordered. On the other hand, gay people do need help... from their partners in the bedroom! They really need less attempts at help from people like you, because you don't see with your eyes and your brain, you see with your eyes and someone else's brain. If you evaluated things independently, beyond the superficial, and always with some level of doubt, you'd see the outside world, and not the dark squishy inside of a corner of some former conservative extremist or current Republican leader's her. How do you like your mind being a fragment of someone else's? A sheep is motivated by the shepherd's staff and the other sheep, but it isn't motivated by the shepherd's motivation, which benefits the shepherd and not the sheep.
Because people browse the shelves of the sexuality supermarket and see "NEW GAY, with added rebellion" and think "Hmmm, that sounds like fun. I think I'll change my brand".
If the Lord warned you about it, it must be part of his ineffable plan, so STFU about it, or are you trying to thwart your God ?
Didn't Oscar Wilde die in 1900 from the hardship he suffered in prison after being sentenced for his homosexuality? That was looong before 1965, Huggy.
Several of the Swedish kings and queens may have been asexual or gay, as they refused to have offspring and had very close friendships with people of their own gender. (Quite a few more were probably gay, but forced themselves to have an offspring to please society.) Queen Christina (died 1689) and Charles XII (died 1718) comes to mind, maybe also Gustav III (died 1792) and Charles XIV John (died 1844), although they did marry, but didn't socialize or live with their wives. All of them lived long before 1965 too.
If it is indeed "choices of rebellion", then there should be fewer and fewer gay people, as there is fewer people who are shocked or outraged about homosexuality. You have to come up with something new to rebel with, dearie, this one's getting stale.
Y'need to change your name, OP, cuz I highly doubt you'll be getting hugs from Jesus with that attitude.
