The only real doubts about God’s existence come from sin, from a psychological unwillingness to face facts. God is abundantly, transcendentally, painfully obvious even to pagans — because otherwise they would not have bothered inventing gods if they did not know, deep down, that they were made for worship, designed by a designer, built by a builder.
Modern atheism springs from the wealth and plenty of the industrial revolution, men who think they can live without God, who then go looking for excuses, flimsy ones, not to believe in Him: Marx, Darwin, Freud.

Don't you realize how absurd AND contradictory this is? First of all, why would pagans invent false gods if the One True God is obvious to them? Second, isn't worshipping false gods a sin? You yourself said that skeptics can't see the "obviousness" of God because of sin (which makes him non-obvious, by the way), so wouldn't that lead to pagans not seeing how obvious God is, which in turn would cancel their need to invent false gods?

While God has had plenty of sins (including torturing people, global genocide, genocide of the tribes around Israel, commanding infanticide, condoning slavery, commanding stoning people to death, etc.), that's far from the only reason to doubt Bible God's existence.

How do you know their gods aren't the real ones? No, literally, how do you KNOW? Faith isn't an acceptable answer. If you're going to present the existence of your God as fact and imply that Pagans are all liars then you need solid evidence. Otherwise I could just as easily say that it's my faith that you are a criminal. When you accuse others of wrongdoing it behooves you to demonstrate their guilt.
@Mister Spak
Observable reality is a sin?
Well, of course! It can cause people to doubt the existence of God just by looking at it. Of course it's a sin. So are rational thought and the scientific method. /fundy
Other people worship other gods, and that's proof that your god is real?
Genius, Mr Wright, genius.
God is abundantly, transcendentally, painfully obvious even to pagans because otherwise they would not have bothered inventing gods if they did not know, deep down, that they were made for worship, designed by a designer, built by a builder.
So obvious was the Christian God that 2,050 years ago, nobody knew of his existence.
Marx, Darwin, Freud.
It's not 1930 any more, Mr Wright.
Religion is a way to explain the unexplained. Worship was a way to try to influence what wasn't understood.
Now, we understand and can explain most natural phenomenon, so there is no need for either religion or worship.
We're not looking for excuses, we just haven't found any evidence for the existence of any gods, let alone your particular one. Present us with tangible, scientific evidence, Johnny-boy, and we might reconsider.
actually, modern atheism springs mainly from the scientific revolution, not the industrial one. you don't need to be materially comfortable or rich to begin questioning gods, but having an intellectual movement around you that questions everything and asks "how do we know that" about any accepted fact --- that helps a lot. modern day atheists owe a lot more to Galileo and the Enlightenment thinkers than we do to that fraud Freud.
in other words, Wright is a century behind his times when speaking about modern atheism; is anyone surprised? the man's that far behind or worse almost no matter what he speaks up about...

You forget that Pagan Gods were worshiped long before your little death cult spread over the world like a cancer. Historically speaking, we were here first, so to us your bully god is purely mythical. Not to mention completely unlikeable. At least our Goddesses and Gods don't demand total immersion in metaphysical ego-stroking, they encourage us to be joyful and don't condemn us to infinite torment for finite 'offenses'.
"God is abundantly, transcendentally, painfully obvious even to pagans..."
Err, no, that's not how it works. Men invent gods to explain that which they don't understand. Your god is just as much an invention by men as any of the other thousands of gods.
The only real doubts about all of the gods' existence come from evil, from a psychological unwillingness to face facts. The gods are abundantly, transcendentally, painfully obvious even to christians because otherwise they would not have bothered inventing a god if they did not know, deep down, that they were made for worship, designed by designers, built by builders.
"...men who think they can live without God..."
No, people who know they can live without demented virgin sniffers trying to bend them to their will to become members of a superstitious horde of contributors to their gravy train.
You don't understand obviousness, atheism, paganism. If your god is so obviously real, why are there Pagans who revere their gods rather than yours? Not so obvious.
God is abundantly, transcendentally, painfully obvious even to pagans because otherwise they would not have bothered inventing gods if they did not know, deep down, that they were made for worship, designed by a designer, built by a builder.
Nonsense. The essence of religion is not simply a belief in gods. It's two other beliefs: that there is a supernatural power whose actions we can influence by our human behavior, and that we (or some special priesthood) knows how to do this. While no one can prove or disprove the existence of gods, the other two beliefs are provably wrong. The simplest proof is that there are thousands of different religions, all claiming something different.
"The only real doubts about God’s existence come [not only from the fact that there's absolutely no actual evidence which supports the putative esitence of the supernatural entities commonly termed gods exist, but that conception of most gods and goddesses is irreconcilable with the reality we observe: An omnipotent god who desires a personal relationship with his creation but is totally unable to communicate the fact of his existence to that creation in an effective manner? A all powerful, all just, all loving god who doesn't lift a finger to ameliorate the suffering of thousands of innocent men, women and children?
Wait, you said seeing God is very easy, unless you've sinned.
As proof, you brought up people who sinned "seeing" god, which goes against your first point.
Isn't that funny? When civilization advances, our knowledge of the universe expands and new philosophies and ideas are conceived, religion becomes less and less relevant. John, why pray to the gods for rain when we can zap the clouds and cause precipitation? Not only can we live without your god, but at this point, we can do things your Bronze Age Sky-Stalin probably couldn't do, even if he was real.
HOW is it painfully obvious?
Nothing requires magic or the supernatural to work just as it does, and works exactly as it should when if natural processes were at work. It is highly improbably and unlikely that anything like a god that we've imagined exists or even could exist.
"...men who think they can live without God, who then go looking for excuses, flimsy ones, not to believe in Him"
So you know what people think? And what they are looking for? You claim to be able to read minds??? WITCH!!! SATAN!!! You know what your holy book says to do with witches, don't you?
The only real doubts about science's existence come from theists who have a psychological unwillingness to face facts. Facts like evolution, geology, and cosmology. Science is abundantly obvious even to theists because otherwise they would not have bothered inventing gods if they did not know, deep down, that science is true whether or not they actually believe it. They hate science and want to sin against it.
Modern religion springs from men who think they can't live without some supernatural sky-pixie watching everything they do, especially what they do when naked. They're afraid that this life is all there is, and conjure mythical sky-pixies handing out reward and punishment in the mythical next life.
The only real doubts about God’s existence come from sin, from a psychological unwillingness to face facts
I'm an actual psychologist. You are flat wrong.
they were made for worship
Humans were made for worship? For praising their creator? I agree. That's why god is not a god of love but a being with an adolescent fixation on being loved, even as he tortures humanity. He is utterly unworthy of worship.
Confused?
