Its so amazing to hear people talking about the acceptance of homosexuality and abortion as social progress. Sad that people born into a nation under god with a long/rich history of christian values feel that the decay of our values is social progress. With nothing as foundation for our morals, we are doomed to the same fate as rome. Read about it and you will see the future of this great country if we continue down the path to a society without values or morals.

Yeah, I sure long for those days when unmarried pregnant girls were considered a humiliation and shipped off to another state. I think those old time Christian Values kept darkies in their place as well. These Christian yahoos bemoan the fact that this country is going downhill when they (out of some need to prove bullshit prophesy true) are the most likely to engage in behavior that will doom us all.
Abortion has been around as long as humans. It's just that now it's available procedure for all who want it, not just the wealthy women.
Concerning homosexuals: I thought your religion had some harsh thing concerning judging other? If you can't accept your fellow human being, aren't you breaking your own religious rules?
Rome went down the shithole after Emperor Constantine embraced Christianity.
So much fail, so little time.
"people born into a nation under god with a long/rich history of christian values "
The phrase "under god" was unconstitutionally added after I was born. The founders were mostly deists.
Go fuck yourself, Bently.
Hey, wasn't Pagan Rome the greatest nation in the world for hundreds of years? It converts to Christianity and lasts, what a century?
Add to which, the "Barbarians" that sacked it so many times were also Christians (largely) and this, Bently, seems to be a fail.
The Roman Empire probably declined for the following reasons:
-A formerly-illegal religion (Christianity) became the official state religion, and you resisted on pain of death.
-Drought and famine prevented the capital city from getting sufficient food, and they had to import it, which was expensive.
-Constantine's sons divided the empire between them, and with the Eastern and Western Empires cut off from each other, they were unable to rely on each other for support anymore.
-The barbarians finally realized that the oppressive men in togas bossing them around weren't gods, and could be killed as easily as their own men.
Note that homosexuality and abortion are in no way related to anything on that list.
a long/rich history of christian values
Covering, what, 400 years on this continent? When Europe's christian history reaches back some 1,600 years? And you'll notice that Europe is quite cool on christianity these days. What have they learned from their long experience?
Accepting homosexuality and abortion does not mean losing all values or morals; it means that our values and morals include a better understanding of human sexuality, and tolerance and respect for personal choices.
If those are your values then let them decay! Good riddance.
And Rome fell shortly after they allowed Christianity to be more than an obscure sect. Surely it was a factor.
Oh, and my country is a monarchy and God is mentioned in the constitution.
However, the people is highly secular and a significant portion of them are atheists, agnostics or simply don't care. Oh, and we beat your country when it comes to crime rates.
Wait a minute, the Roman Empire was officially Christian by the time it collapsed. You should probably look at a history book or four. Judging by your standard we're doing just fine and things will get better the more people abandon Christianity. Now, I can agree with you there.
Guys, be fair here: I think it's perfectly plausible that if Americans don't immediately begin a vigorous persecution of gays and abortion doctors that the Visigoths will sack Washington D.C. Comparing the U.S. to Rome is a pretty watertight analogy. I mean, you have Bush's border fence = Hadrian's wall. You have . . . uh, well, I can't think of anything else, but I tell you the barbarians are gonna get us.

Ancient Greece tolerated and promoted homosexuality and had a practice of leaving unwanted babies on a cliff to die. It fell because of wars between the rival city-states and the break-up of Alexander the Great's empire, which eventually led to it being conquered by Rome. Homosexuality and abortion had nothing to do with its fall.
Rome fell after Christianity became the dominant religion, its empire grew too large to manage, its inept emperors wasted away its resources, and the "barbarian" Goths invaded. Again, homosexuality and abortion had nothing to do with it. FAIL.
Rome fell after it had embraced Christianity. We'd better throw it out immediately!
We have a foundation for our morals. Actually, we have several. Civil rights, for one thing. Treating others as we want to be treated, is another.
Why is it so hard to accept homosexuality? It's as futile to refuse to accept diabetes, as it is to refuse to accept homosexuality. It's there, whether you like it or not, some of the people carrying the trait would rather that it didn't exist. But it does and they can't help being homosexuals or diabetics.
The social progress with abortion is that it's now possible to have the procedure done without the risk to kill the woman in the process. Which is what you DON'T like with it, I'm sure. There have always been abortions, there will always be abortions. As the woman is a self-sustaining life-form with consciousness, her life counts more than a lump of parasitic cells with no nervous system.
Confused?
