You've heard it said that "We are all God's children." This rings flowery and nice.
It's an insidious lie.
[...]
Don't believe? Don't accept? You have no right to become a child of God.
And that's unholy hell.
[...]
Unconvinced? You don't have to believe to quietly pray this simple prayer to yourself:
"Jesus, if you're out there, please reveal yourself to me. If you're real, help thou my unbelief."
If I'm right - if Jesus is not a liar and He is who He says He is - then you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by inquiring futher.
If you don't inquire further, you have everything to lose.

Jesus replied, "Chill out man. Them ol' desert beardies is a bunch of whackopaths. You don't want to pay no attention to their crazed scribblings. Besides they been dead awhile. And in any case, they was only after your virgins."

Been there, done that, back when I was still religious but having serious doubts. Guess what? Nothing happened.
Just like a "Fire & Brimstone" fundie to deny the "God of Love". *hmmph* Typical!
I'm going back to using "Fundie" because "Frummer/Frum/Frummy" hasn't caught on and "Frum" might not have the negative connotation that I assumed.
Fundie is better and it's a corruption of "fundamentalist" rather than a shortened version. Fundies don't even embrace the fundamentals right, hence "fundie". Fundies don't mind being "fundamentalists" but they LOATHE being called "fundies"....So, I'll stick to "fundie".
However, I'm still pushing "Theban" to refer to gay males. It's only fair. The ladies get to be called "Lesbians".
"... If you're real, help thou my unbelief."
If YOU're real, speak 21st century English. Jesus will hear and understand you just as well (i.e., not at all) and you'll sound slightly less stupid.
Jesus, if you're out there, please answer this question:
Allegedly, your Mom is in Heaven. When she appears to people down here, does she have to get her hand stamped or something, to get back in?
@ SpukiKitty: I was never sure just what you meant by Frummer, although I could see how it might fit. The only Frummers I know about were the ones in the Cargo Cult of John Frum.

Edit: @ Scratch: I was first introduced to this living nightmare in the late '60s or early '70s through a TV documentary. A group of Anthropologists(?) tried to explain to the practitioners what actually happened (WWII aircraft, etc.) and snap them out of their delusion. Anyone who knew about The Great Disappointment and its outcomes could have predicted their failure.
"Jesus, if you're out there, please reveal yourself to me. If you're real, help thou my unbelief."
Tried it in the spirit of fairness. Nothing happened, so I guess you're wrong.
@breakerslion
That's the first time I've seen that and I find it deeply frightening and yet totally in line with what I know about the human condition.
"If I'm right - if Jesus is not a liar and He is who He says He is - then you have nothing to lose"
Nothing, except for my intellectual integrity, that is.

Pascal's Wager? Is that tired old bottle of weak-sauce the best you can do?! *laughs*
(Malingspann)
"If."
That's Moose's line, ya know. *chuckles*
Meanwhile, you die and find out there's nothing there in the end, and in the last second of consciousness you realise you wasted your whole life doing nothing but preaching hate and being a fundie nut. I die and there's nothing there, but at least I can reflect on the good times I had, not wasting any time caring about God or any higher power's impact on my life.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
