Many years ago, I used think that babies were born innocent and could do no wrong. I thought they did not understand right and wrong. I thought that as they grew their personality and environment would shape who they were. But then I was taught according to God’s Word that we are born in sin, “Behold, I was born in iniquity, and in sin hath my mother conceived me (Ps. 51:5, GNV), and in Adam we all fell (Gen. 3:6–7).

I have been shown this recently with my baby who is now ten months old. Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely adore my baby and delight in her. I also know that our family can see firsthand just how depraved these cute little bundles of joy can be. We heard a talk one time from Voddie Baucham that referenced our cute little ones as vipers in diapers. At first, I was taken back to think my little baby could be such a thing.

For about two months, her little sin nature has really begun showing. She does not like to hear the word “no.” She screams if you don’t get to her quickly, or if you do not understand her. She is pickier when it comes to eating. I could not believe a baby so young could understand exactly what she was doing at such a young age. I don’t remember ever having to discipline my kids before they were twelve months old. And while I don’t approve of her behavior and we are working with her, I am amazed at how clear the sin nature is in babies.

It is because of this sin nature from the get-go that we are to diligently teach our children the Word of God. We are to raise them in the fear and admonition of the Lord, and we are to disciple and discipline them according to His Word. And with strong-willed children, it may take longer, and it may be more work. But we have to be consistent. It will be more trying and tiring for us, but, Lord willing, results will come. Galatians 6:9 says, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

We have had to discipline her, but she is doing better. She is still a mama’s girl and still seems to need extra attention right now, but she is learning to obey.

As long as millions of Christian children, one generation after another, are sent to Christ-denying public schools, where they are taught that science trumps the Bible, there can be no hope of recovery. By surrendering their children to these schools, Christians become a party to their own destruction. Christian children all need Christian educations. We are sorry if our saying so hurts anyone’s feelings—but how are we to tiptoe around the pitfall of Christian children being schooled by atheists? Church-going Christians wouldn’t dream of sending their children to a Muslim school; why do they send them to the public schools?

These children—those who don’t abandon the faith entirely—are the future congregations of America’s churches. Steeped in the secular “faith” and reverence for “science,” how likely are they to demand a day of reckoning from science?

As long as Christians’ focus is on the church as an institution, rather than on God and His Word and their duty to live by God’s Word in this world, the institutional church’s first priority will always be to sustain itself as an institution. The people have failed to demand anything greater from it.

“And there shall be, like people, like priest,” said the prophet Hosea (Hosea 4:9)—the people won’t be any better than their church, and the church won’t be any better than its people.

We don’t mean to suggest that Christians can’t be or shouldn’t be scientists. We say the opposite—that Christians should never have abandoned science to the atheists. Science is just another sphere of life that ought to be taken captive for Christ. Indeed, it’s difficult to see how the whole scientific enterprise could ever have begun, absent the Christian teaching that a wise and rational God created the heavens and the earth and that man, given dominion by God over His creation, could apply his God-given intellect to discover the creation’s laws and inner workings.

When the serpent told Eve that she and Adam would be as gods if they disobeyed God and ate the forbidden fruit, he meant that they would be able to decide for themselves what was good and what was evil. They would, in Justice Kennedy’s words, acquire “the right to define one’s own concept of existence, of meaning,” etc.

One wonders whether it ever occurred to the Supreme Court justice that he was talking just like Satan. The judge made his remarks in the course of finding a long-lost right to sodomy buried in the Constitution. But because Satan’s arguments still seem persuasive to fallen man, we find ourselves engaged, nationally, in ridiculous arguments over same-sex “marriage.”

How can we protect our own children from being given nightmares by these visions of environmental doom spewed out by politicians, academics, news personalities, and idiotic movie stars? How can we protect them from being taken in by this scam? A solid Biblical foundation is a must. Faith in God and His Word is a shield that will protect us from all the fiery darts of the wicked. Teach children, for instance, to take Psalm 24 literally: “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”

To believe in catastrophic, extinction-causing, man-made climate change, we must believe in a pitiful, powerless God who sits in a remote corner of heaven wringing His hands, unable to stop His human creatures from destroying His creation and rendering His promises null and void. Is that any kind of God for a Christian to believe in? If God is true (and of course He is), then the prophets of human self-extermination are liars.

We have only ourselves to blame if we send our children off to public schools every day to watch An Inconvenient Truth—Al Gore’s global warming end-of-the-world movie, complete with computer-generated images of drowning polar bears: required viewing in many schools—and have their heads crammed full of Darwinism, radical environmentalism, and the need for an Amazing Colossal Government to solve all our problems. We are much better off following God’s commandment to give our children a godly education, either at home or in a solid Christian school.
