That’s only true about witch burnings. The Catholic church joined that specific madness relatively late, before the belief that witches exist was regarded as heresy by the (adjective less) inquisition, so when you accused someone of being a witch, it was more likely yourself who got into trouble

Well, why would they help a religion that would protect them as a kind of “brother believers” against another religion that regularly would commit hate crimes against them and generally used them as scapegoats for everything that went wrong? Who would do something like that?
