Age certainly is relevant. how many 16 , 17 or 18 yr old boys have been charged with statutory rape when they had sex with their 14 or 15 yr old girlfriend. So what if a 22 yr guy marries a 12 yr old girl. Its none of anyone's business.

I'm ignoring the complete ick factor of an adult marrying a 12 year old completely.
Marrying someone successful, regardless of the ages involved is not natural selection. There are no genes to determine if someone is going to be a success in life, only that they have a better chance of surviving to reproduce in the first place.

That is not natural selection, that is selective breeding.
A 12-year-old's body is not ready to give birth, she will probably die or be damaged for life. But if all you want to have is lots of children, you probably don't care about their mother anyway. You'll just bring the kids up yourself after she dies, right?

In the USA? Quite a few, actually,according to what I read. Let's take the example of a pair of 14 years old lovebirds caught while they were consensually and enthusiastically messing around. It tends to vary according to the state's exact laws and the sanity level of the judge, but there are parts of the US where a judge sticking to the letter of the law can have one or both of the kids registered as a child molester on the sex offenders registry, since technically they're both guilty of statutory rape on each other. So now you have two kids subjected to part or all of the same restrictions imposed upon a registered sex offender who raped babies and shared vids of it on the net, such as not being allowed to be unsupervised around minors (including their siblings), the kind of restriction on where they are allowed to live that resulted in the creation of sex offenders camps under an overpass because there was no place in the city that wasn't too close to a place where children gather, potentially even not being allowed into school or libraries, which, combined with the usual prohibition against touching a computer/accessing the Internet means that they will be unable to complete their education, etc. Hell, I'm aware of at least one case where a wannabe vigilante picked such a kid at random on the sex offender registry and murdered him: details like the fact that the minor he had "raped" had been his consenting girlfriend and that he was minor himself at the time had no been mentionned in his registry file...

Teens with a couple of years of age difference between them (and near or above the usual age of consent in the EU) are not the same thing as an adult man marrying a tween ten years younger than him...
