It's clear that you don't. Dumbledore didn't get rejected, per se. In fact, we don't know if Grindelwald ever found out about his feelings or if he ever returned them. After Grindelwald left, Dumbledore became the opposite of evil. He tried to shield himself away from the catastrophe that Grindelwald was making by investing his time in Hogwarts, eventually confronted Grindelwald and defeated him, and then tried to use his powers for good (while also trying to repent for the damage that he had been partially responsible for). One could say that Grindelwald's "rejection" had the opposite effect.

Why, because they might actually learn and realize that being gay is nothing to be ashamed of? It was never even explicitly mentioned in the books that Dumbledore was gay! None of the characters figured it out, or appeared to. Not even Harry.
