Mardi Gras is nothing but a drunken orgy in a city full of black magic, voodoo, and other kinds of witchcraft and satanism. After the city was all but destroyed last year, the news media is reporting on the return of Mardi Gras as some sort of beautiful symbol of the city's rebirth. Talk about sick! All I can think of is Sodom and Gomorrah.
Speaking strictly from an emotional standpoint, my heart is just broken for those deceived souls down there.

"All I can think of is Sodom and Gomorrah." Yeah? All I can think of is brainwashing by bigoted christians, and how floods were caused by the mistreatment of our environment, the melting of the polar ice caps by global warming, the improper dredging of the Mississippi River delta (mostly by oil companies), which acts as a buffer against major storms. The abuse of the environment is of course caused by man-made pollution. What a funny coincidence that much of the population of New Orleans is composed of black people, creole, cajun and hispanic catholics (fundies hate catholics), and various bohemians (artists, actors, authors and musicians). The fundies seem to never mention that numerous cities along the mississippi river were also destroyed, along with cities in Alabama along the gulf coast, which do tend to be populated by White Southern Baptists.
What really does not really make sense with such an argument is that numerous white communities suffered as well as the people from New Orleans. In other words, why would it be a punishment for New Orleans if people OUTSIDE New Orleans also were affected?

frankly, sounds good to me.

as opposed to what? Languishing in properly godly misery forever?
<<< Didn't the counties in Florida that voted Republican get hit by a hurricane a few years back? >>>
Nope, that's a myth. Not least because hurricanes are way too big to go county by county like that, but the people who spread that one fudged the paths a little bit to make it work. Check Snopes.

Well, New Orleans did get the worst of it (largely because it's below sea level and thus the water couldn't drain very well), but that's a good point. If God wants vengeance on one city in particular, I think he's capable of a bit better precision than using hurricanes.
Mardi Gras is an extention of Carnivale, which roughly translates into "going of the meat". That sounds a little silly but it's related to the Catholic tradition of abstaining from meats during the Lenten season which begins the Wednesday after Mardi Gras (Ash Wednesday). While it's been hijacked by secularism for, you know, being fun and exciting it's roots date back to early Christianity.

Exactly. I mean, it's Fat Tuesday, and it means a celebration with rich, fatty foods in preperation for Lent, doesn't it?
I mean, look at Wiki:
"In the Christian calendar, Shrove Tuesday is the English name for the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which in turn marks the beginning of Lent. In many solidly Roman Catholic countries in Europe and the Americas, this is the last day of Carnival. In some historically Francophone places it is Mardi Gras, French for Fat Tuesday; the most famous Shrove Tuesday celebration is the Brazilian Carnival.
It is also known as Pancake Day or Pancake Tuesday in Britain, Ireland, Australia, and Canada.
The origin of the name Shrove lies in the archaic English verb 'to shrive' which means to absolve people of their sins. It was common in the Middle Ages for 'shriveners' (priests) to hear people's confessions at this time, to prepare them for Lent."

Speaking strictly from a logical standpoint, my respect is just shattered for those ignorant fools everywhere.
Your God is getting weak in his old age, Dilferthecat. He wanted to destroy New Orleans, but couldn't.
So I guess New Orleans gets added to the list of things that your God can't defeat, right next to iron chariots.
What a pathetic pussy your God is...

This sounds like a hell of a party to me.
What better way to celebrate the death and devestation than the dionysian celebration of life it self.
...yet, New Orleans emerged out of Hurricane Katrina with nary a scratch. Hurricane Isaac? Well, just a storm in a Mardi Gras reveller's D-cup.
The 'Sodom & Gomorrah' of the French Quarter? Either (check one):
[ ] God is a piss-poor shot these days, re. his 'wrath', therefore he's not all that 'omnipotent' these days, therefore he's not God, ergo he doesn't exist.
[ ] Natural meteorological shit happens (but only to the very religious parts of Louisiana; like I say: churches annihilated by Katrina, yet, the 'sinful' French Quarter barely touched. Go figure), and your 'God' Doesn't exist.
Choose wisely.
Confused?
