What to do about anti-Christian books, teachers, assignments in College?
I just got my books today and classes starts Monday. I'm going into a multimedia field and one of my classes is Computer Fundamentals of Visual Communications with the book Visual Communication. I pick it up to flip through it and on the first of second page is a big picture of Obama (and I think "here we go, the progressives are now in my life") I proceed to skim through the book and wow!!! It is one big blasphemy after another. It's like three pages of propaganda and one page of actual knowledge I would need to know, then more progressive propaganda.
How do I handle this? I know I will have to write papers on this affront to God's word, work and will, so what do I do? Pleasing the Lord is first in my thoughts and actions always, much more important than anything else. I do know that I will be expected to toe the party line like a good socialist, but I don't think I can do it. I wonder if God would want me to just not comment on the anti-God parts and do my papers on the rest or take a stand? The problem is that I think I will be kicked out pretty quick for not toeing the line. I wanted to learn web design not only for my living but to also spread the truth of the Lord and hopefully bring some to Christ through electronic means. I know I will be praying on this subject and know the Lord will direct me. I just wanted your thoughts and insights on this and what you would do. Thank you so much for your help.

... propaganda in textbook about communication?
Dude, if they're mentioning Obama, it's because his team has excellent visual communication skills. His politics is irrelevant; his marketing was great.
What the hell does he mean by anti-God and anti-Christian?
Does it just not mention Christianity and Jebus every other word or something?
Oh, and welcome to academics, filled full with fulfilling filler, all of it, should probably be used to that by now if you're going to college.
Propaganda in a wed design book?
Worst I can find in those are lame jokes and attempts to appear deep.
Someone seems to be a bit too indulgent when it comes to the blood of christ.
Why shouldn't a textbook of Visual Communications have a picture of Obama in it? I dare say the last edition had a picture of Bush in the same chapter. Come to that, what are you doing in a multimedia class anyway?
Ecclesiastes 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
If copying scrolls longhand was good enough for the preacher it should be good enough for you.
Great, Glenn Beck actually managed to reach someone with his "progressives want to destroy 'merica" rant. Because progressive totally means going back to medieval feudal systems, which I am pretty sure would be Glenn Beck's wet dream.
You can't stop progress, you can only fight it, but you still won't stop it.
Maybe this is why most fundie websites are so poorly designed. Multimedia education and proper design principles are of the devil!
Kid, if God loves you, he wants you to succeed. Just read the stupid book. Nobody's asking you to take it as gospel.
Just internalize how to hardcode HTML without a WYSIWYG editor.
I reeeeeeally want to see this book now. Got to see what kind of language would qualify it as "blasphemy" and "propaganda". With his only example being a picture of Obama, I'm betting that he just has very weak skin. Hopefully he's not as bad as Andy Schafly or else even his math classes won't be exempt from his talent for hallucinating liberal/atheist propaganda.
"What to do about anti-Christian books, teachers, assignments in College?"
Grow up and learn to recognize non-religious books from anti-Christian books. Even if the books ARE anti-Christian, STFU, do the work and pass the class.
With your amazing ability to differentiate between 'knowledge' and 'propaganda', you already, clearly, know everything there is to know about this subject. Why are you even taking it? Surely, someone of your intellectual prowess should be teaching the class ?
Leave it to a Rapture Readyite to find anti-God propaganda in everyday textbooks.
If you're that concerned with what you call anti-God propaganda, then why didn't you go somewhere like Oral Roberts University?
But anyway, this appears to be what homeschooling gets you. After sheltering your kids for so long, they get out in the real world and find that not everyone worships Jesus every single minute of their lives like they do.
The guy never even mentioned any "anti-God" propaganda in his books. He said there were pictures of Obama in it and said he expected he'd have to "toe the party line like a good socialist". Neither Obama nor socialism are "anti-God" in any way that I know of. Of course, when you're on Rapture Ready, where being conservative is considered a requirement for being Christian, then I guess those things are anti-God. It just baffles me how these guys think that being conservative and Christian are inseparable.
Edit: I'm glad there's at least one reasonable person in that thread. Kliska said, "Just because text supports President Obama (most will), doesn't make it instantly blasphemous. You can write against things you find in texts, just make sure you have good solid references to back things up."
Gb2 diploma mill chump, Colleges won't change by whims of a one individual.
If you don't like it, piss off. This is what freedom of expression is all about, besides he is the god damn president so you ought to see him in the textbooks.
Just keep your fingers crossed in your pantpocket when you write...
Wow, you have a Socialist Party in the US? And it's big enough to dictate what you read in schools? You learn something new every day (not RyanT of course, he only wants to learn old stuff again).
I don't think I've ever had a truly Anti-Christian school-book.
A picture of Obama in the book just shows it's a new book. If they taught you from old books there would have been a picture of GWB or Clinton, or, if it's a really old book; GHWB or Reagan.
Because we all know the bible says liberals are evil right?
What's that one anti-socialism verse? You know...the one that doesn't exist?
Jesus was a socialist pal.
@1197656-Evil Monkey
Not only were computers developed by atheists/agnostics,Gates,Job,Wozniak, they were invented by a Gay man,Alan Turing.
Definitely not fundie territory.
@ Evil Monkey
It doesn't matter to these people that the likes of Gates, Jobs, Wozniak are all atheists/agnostics. Since it's possible to trace the development of computers to a Christian, Charles Babbage, they interpret that as meaning that computers are somehow a "Christian" invention, that was only possible for humanity to create because of Jesus, and indelibly imbued with an essence of Christianity, right down to today's iPad's, iMacs and all other computer technology.
That way, people who are simply not talented or clever enough to create something as complex and beautiful as a modern computer can conceitedly take credit for their existence.
This attitude makes it easier to understand how it was possible for the Nazis to think there was such a thing as Jewish science and Aryan science.
Godwin's you say? Fuck it, I don't care, it's important to understand that there is an inherent danger in this sort of essentialism: i.e. thinking that ideas, inventions, branches of science etc. can be "Jewish", "Christian", "atheist" or whatever.
You know, as much as I'd like to find out what it is that is offending you so [I bet it's something stupid and trivial], I'd much rather you not do your web design course and not spread your propaganda on the net. We really do not need another christian website.
I think you'll find that acquiring an education is not a necessity if you plan on a life of evil. In fact, it's a downright hindrance to ones enjoyment of bigotry and makes the persecution of minorities and non-fundamentalists more problematic. Racism is a good example of a state of mind made more difficult to attain by turning away from God and attempting to learn things.
Ultimately, one's goal is to be as evil as possible while one is an inhabitant of this planet and then to escape responsibility for ones evil actions by flying up to an exclusive club for villains by joining the galaxy's gloomiest ghouls, God's ghostly gang.
You could purposely stride towards the worst grade possible in it, as a way to protest it. As you're American, that would be... F?
If you were British, you could go for G, or maybe even Unclassified!
I think you should spend some time reading Romans in your bible rather than just thumping the cover claiming you're better than everyone. If you truly believe your fairy tale book, then you must also believe that the only reason Obama was elected is because your god wanted it that way. Shut up, accept your god's ruling, and get the fuck off my internet.
How do I handle this?
If you need to ask, then you can't.
I'm also disgusted by your shrieking denunciation of "propaganda" when you immediately follow it with the admission that you want to become a propagandist yourself.
Honestly, it doesn't really matter. You are going to hell for even touching that filth. Computer Fundamentals indeed, might as well be titled Sucking Satan's Cock.
Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with these people?
I'm trying to figure out how using computers in visual presentations is Satanic. I'm drawing a blank here.
Unless, of course, you're the kind of idiot who thinks that liberal presidents, rock bands, and uppity women shouldn't use computer effects on pain of Hellfire. That, however, is not the fault of the course, or of the textbook, but of your own willful ignorance.
Yes, this is all part of the Illuminati/ACLU/Communist/Nazi/Satanic/Muslim/Atheist conspiracy to make you look at pictures of the president which is all he apparently needs to take over control of your mind and brainwash you into joining his Sharia Law Death Panels where they do an extremely late term abortion on the elderly and you will collect their blood which we need to power our anti-Christ machine so we can usher in the New World Order. And to think, all it takes is a picture of Obama in a random textbook. Mwahahahahahaha!
Pleasing the Lord is first in my thoughts and actions always, much more important than anything else.
What, you can't wait until AFTER class? I know college kids are horny but this is ridiculous.
I would love to be a fly on the wall during his classes.
And fuck, we're going to have MORE crappy godbotherer sites? Fuck me.
If you really wanted to "spread the truth of the Lord", you'd already be a progressive/socialist/liberal, Ryan, because that's what Jesus was. He said you should help the poor and and the sick, and pay your taxes.
What you really want to do is spread the selfish, un-Christian word of the rich, Fox News and the Republican party. Big difference.
Okay, seriously, how political or blasphemous could that textbook possibly be? It's about visual comm!
I'm inclined to think they were using Obama's fantastic PR and marketing team that dreamed up those posters and the like as an example.
But of course that means that the eeeeeevil arm of Socialism is reaching out to get him.
I've been a college student for all of four days, and even I can tell RyanT is full of shit. My philosophy text has quotes by Cotton Mather and John Locke in it, and I'm not complaining about the fundiness of it... if you can't handle it just drop the class.
Now calm down guys, I don't think he's at Schafly levels yet; he is at least considering taking the course anyway, not running away cursing his classmates to Hell.
Ryan- I doubt that the textbooks are even a fraction as bad as you say they are anyway, but I'm sure your god will forgive you for reading a textbook with a picture of President Obama in it. But why do you care about higher education anyway? Isn't the rapture supposed to happen any week now?
So, it seems you saw Obama in a book, which will drive you to go in insane religious tirades, refuse to work in your assignments because you claim them ungodly and then getting an F which you'll blame on the New World Order/Satan/Obama/Lord Voldemort/Marvin the Martian.
Oh Ryan! You're right! Your first assignment will be to write a paper about how God does not exist! Your next assignment is going to be write about how we should all ditch capitalism and embrace socialism! Your fears are so absolutely grounded in reality.
Actually Ryan, none of that is going to happen. I'm in my third year of college and I've not had to write anything that was either political or religious.
So, shut the fuck up and quit being an attention whore.
I've had to read parts of Dante's Inferno twice, once in high school and once in college. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY DISCRIMINATION. Or, maybe just a good topic for humanities. Leaning towards the former though now that you've shown me the light.
Back in high school, my C++ textbook had little half-page mini-bios of influential people in the early history of the development of computers. I'm sure this guy would be pissed at the sight of Ada Lovelace Byron in that book. I mean she'd be a woman that figured out how to use an primitive computer-type machine that hadn't even been built yet far more effectively than the guy that was actually inventing it.
Whereas this guy can't make it past the first few pages of a colorful textbook that breaks far easier things down to baby steps. Bet you a dollar this guy goes to a really sucky community college or tech school that caters to people with lower test scores. They usually have really colorful but fairly useless textbooks like that.
Welcome to the world of critical thinking RyanT. Now, I know you didn't have to bother with critical thinking while you were being home-schooled. I am sorry to say that those glorious days are gone forever.
Out here in the real world, you are very likely to meet with people who disagree with you. There's no need to panic when this happens. All you have to do is defend your view with objective facts and credible citations. One warning though: citing the bible is only helpful if the person you are talking to also believes that the bible is credible (good luck with that).
Now, there may be times when the facts do not agree with your point of view. In those cases, I am sorry to say, it is quite possible that you are wrong. Accept this as a possibility, and consider modifying your position in light of the facts. Trust me, its good to learn.
Now get out there and make us proud!
"ow do I handle this?"
Suicide.
if your going into multimedia, your going to read about it's use in politics. You are going to find opinions you don't agree with. Now stop hiding behind a bible and attempt to learn, that's what your there for.
If you intend to do "God's work" with your education, I bet God would be fine with you just keeping quiet on the anti-God parts - which I doubt there are any; you're just being extremely sensitive - while you learn web design, so that you can later spread His Word to the three people on Earth that has never heard about your particular god.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
