Atheism is not a totalitarianism, yet atheism cannot exist in a free society, since people naturally gravitate towards supernatural.

Actually, I think it's arguable that a truly free society would gravitate toward atheism. And people don't "naturally gravitate towards supernatural," it's almost invariably repeatedly forced down the throats of children starting at a very early age. It's called 'brainwashing' . . . look in to it.
I think we should retract that. Edial later says that he conveyed his idea poorly, and meant that an atheist government (not a secular government, but avowedly atheist) was incompatible with a free society.
The naturally gravitating towards the supernatural thing, I do not necessarily agree with, but his points are mostly intellectually honest (from what I've read).

If a avowedly atheist government is incompatible with a free society, does this mean that a avowedly christian government is just as incompatible with free society? Both would like to see their idea's "shoved down the throats" of the masses.

That's nowhere near as loony, but it still depends on how you define "avowedly atheist government". An "atheocracy" would be bad, yes, but I seriously doubt it could be half as bad as a theocracy (aside from "there are no gods", what dogma would such a government try to enforce?).
Atheism *must* exist for there to be a free society. Left unchecked, Christianity, Islam, etc. tend to try to dominate all the members of a society.
"people naturally gravitate towards supernatural."
Those who gravitate towards the supernatural are generally the weak minded or emotionally needy. Many grown-up, intelligent people feel no need of the supernatural.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Only the stupid ones.
Really? Close all churchs, Free Bible distrubution and religious broadcasting then.
Atheism is the natural conclusion
So, Sweden doesn't exist? Good to know.
According to Bill O'Reilly, about 85% of the Swedish population are more or less atheistic. We are still a free society: we have general elections every four years, and we have 8+ parties to choose from, from communistic ones to nationalistic ones. Schools are free, health care is fairly cheap, and we have one of the highest life-expectancies in the world.
Sure, lots of people are into Manga and fantasy and sci-fi stuff, but almost all of them realize they are imaginations.
“Atheism is not a totalitarianism,”
Some historical states would suggest you’re in error.
“yet atheism cannot exist in a free society, since people naturally gravitate towards supernatural.”
We assign agency willy-nilly. The printer hates, me, my car loves me, my 3 iron is solid, but my 3 Wood is psychotic…
It’s how we got religion in the first place. Gods send the storm, we can appease gods before the storm kills us all!
We know that. Knowing it means i can stop and think, Am I afraid of the attic because ghosts are real, or because I’ve seen too many Hammer films?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
