Who thinks it's funny that people accept spontaneous generation but not Intelligent Design?
Abiogenesis = spontaneous generation
How is it that people believe that this happens by itself? What is the purpose in this? What is the drive? What is the cause for this?
Also, don't you think it's funny how they put the word Genesis in abiogenesis? Tells you where they get their terminology and ideas from. The Bible.
[So... by that logic, did the bible get its terminology and ideas from the Greeks?]

Abiogenesis is not the implausibility you seem to think. For millenia it was accepted as an obvious observed phenomenon of nature. It was only after complex Scientific experiments and demonstrations by pasteur that the common wisdom was shown to be not generally accurate. However, in the conditions of the early earth, several different possible biochemical routes to abiogenesis have been demonstrated.
Certainly there have been millenia of different accounts of gods creating life too, but none of them are any more plausible than any of the others. Accordingly, the funny thing is not that people accept spontaneous generation but not Intelligent Design; the funny thing is your question.
There is no predestined cause, no drive besides reproduction and no purpose, except the self-imposed ones. You should realise what true freedom is.

ABIOGENESIS DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY!
Spontaneous generation refers to the old belief that microorganisms developed automatically from dead organic matter, and that the organic matter itself had some intrinsic property to allow it to happen.
Sorry, you fail at biology and history.
Abiogenesis = spontaneous generation?
Bible = Dianetics.
(Of course I am not implying that one of the two religious books is true, whereas abiogenesis is most likely true.)
Well, genesis basically means "origin" or "beginning" in Latin/Greek.
So the bible *OBVIOUSLY* got its terminology and ideas from the Greeks.
Do these idiots truly believe that "genesis" and the other book-names are just nonsense-words invented solely for use in the bible, and had no meaning before that?
Human stupidity truly scares me.
Idiot.
There are plenty of people who believe (as I do) that God created the Universe and life and man through the Big Bang, abiogenesis and evolution - whether specifically guided or just set up that way in the first place. We have no need to subscribe to the mangled gibberish that is the Intelligent Design movement. Science shows us how His Universe works. Who are you to argue with Him or say He's made it wrong?
First abiogenesis =/= spontaneous generation, so let's set that straw man on fire.
Second I bet you think genesis is a Hebrew word don't you?
@Pule Thamex: Did you mean "generation" instead of "combustion"? I'm pretty sure spontaneous combustion actually happens. (Sorry for linking to Wikipedia, but I also googled and I got mostly stuff about spontaneous human combustion which is not what I mean.)
EDIT: seems the question has been deleted...
Well, at least someone's using the correct term for what he's arguing against.
Too bad he doesn't understand etymology.
Abiogenesis =/= spontaneous generation ..Im sorry, but if that was true then the "Peanut butter argument" would be correct.

Abiogenesis, even though it is an infant field of science, has shown that it is VERY complicated for pre-conditions for life to arise. Yet once those conditions are met life will almost assuredly start from non-living elements.
"Abiogenesis = spontaneous generation "
Which doesn't happen. Of course creationism makes it sound that way perfectly.
"Also, don't you think it's funny how they put the word Genesis in abiogenesis? Tells you where they get their terminology and ideas from. The Bible.
:
Which is where they got the idea it happens!
Wow.
So much misunderstanding capped of with a wordplay fail. Amazing. Yahoo Answers is truly wonderful.
I find it strange that the religious can accept intelligent design but not abiogenesis. Also, dont you think its funny how they extracted a word from it to make the book of Genesis?
Actually, you fucking idiot, genesis comes from the Greek word and means "beginning". It has nothing to do with the bible, other than the fact that the bible uses some Greek terminology.
I do. People who accept ID should accept spontaneous generation. One piece of garbage looks and smells like any other.
Oh, abiogenesis is not spontaneous generation. Idiot.
Confused?
