[Randy's response to a poster saying the US isn't a Christian Nation]
FACT: The original settlers who came to America were Bible-believers looking to escape the religious persecution of the Catholic church and the Church of England
FACT: The majority of the men who created the government of this nation were men who worshiped God.
FACT: SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE is a myth that occurs nowhere in the Constitution of the United States. The first amendment of the Constitution has been misinterpreted by atheists who want to dissolve any form of Christian worship in the United States. The First Amendment says, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." Among other things, this amendment says that the congress cannot make a law stating that everyone must be a Baptist. This amendment also says that the congress cannot make a law which restricts free exercise of religion. In other words, they cannot make a law which says it is illegal for you to witness to someone at school. This amendment does not say that a government may not, for example, post the ten commandments on public property or endorse a prayer at the beginning of a meeting of some kind. In fact, both houses of Congress and the Supreme Court all start their sessions with an opening prayer.
FACT: Both houses of Congress and the Supreme Court all start their sessions with an opening prayer.
FACT: The most common pieces of material printed by our Government (currency) contains the phrase "In God We Trust"
FACT: Even today, in the face of overwhelming media bias which would lead us to believe otherwise, and the corresponding revision of history more than 80% of the population of the United States professes to be Christian (I personally do not believe this number to represent the number of people in the US who are saved).
FACT: Since the creation of the Judicial system (excluding recent actions of the ACLU), anyone who testified in a court of law had to swear an oath before God to tell the truth with their hand on the Bible.
FACT: The Word of God is used in conjunction with some oath whenever a public official is sworn into office.
I could continue, but anyone with an ounce of common sense can see that this is a CHRISTIAN NATION!

"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion ..."
How dare you disagree with George Washington, the founder of our country?
Fact one, none of the Pilgrim fathers was trying to scape from the Catholic church. Second, the first ammendment means that no law will be based in a concrete religious belief. If you don't understand it, the whole discussion is useless.
Every time Captain Ross of the USS Make-Shit-Up sees a thread having ANYTHING to do with the USA or politics on his forum, he always goes out of his way to cram it down the throats of people as far as possible that it is a CHRISTIAN NATION!111~~~~ Wishful thinking at best, idolatry at worst. I don't really think changing his mind on this is possible, even with every possible document laid bare before him.
This amendment does not say that a government may not, for example, post the ten commandments on public property or endorse a prayer at the beginning of a meeting of some kind.
Randy is five Supreme Court justices now?
Oh sweet jesus this one will be fun.
Fact: The original inhabitants of this continent were pagan, and european settlers wholesale slaughter of them was hardly christian. Also, this small first colony really didn't end up having that much to do with the construction of the nation.
Fact: Benjamin Franklin was a Deist, and frequently attacked Christian Doctrine. Thomas Jefferson was a Christian Deist, but denied the divinity of Jesus. There is no record of George Washington having ever taken Communion, and frequently left church services before it began. Thomas Paine, deist. John Adams was a unitarian, and denied the divinity of Christ. I could keep going, but i won't.
Fact: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." - The First Fucking Amendment. This amendment dashes any notion that your churches morals should be forced on anybody against the rocks. It also mentions nothing about dismantling any religious system. All of the men in the about paragraph, ALL OF THEM, championed religious freedom and that is not limited to Christians.
Fact: Jews pray, Muslims pray, Hindu's pray, Jaines pray, Taoist pray, Buddhists pray, Sihks pray, Wiccans pray, New agers pray, the OTO prays. What the fuck is your point, Brother Randy?
Fact: It makes no difference how many people in America profess to be or identify with any one church, people have fought, died and spent so many long hours so that that remaining minority will NOT HAVE THEIR RIGHTS TRAMPLED.
This next two facts I have no contrary fact for, but I will say that I just don't understand why you feel this makes some sort of point. So just for fun: FACT: America was colonized by people who thought tomatoes are poisonous. Look how right they are.
I know you'll never have the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, Bro. Randy, but do us all a favor and quit brain washing those kids.
The majority of the men who created the government of this nation were men who worshiped God.
They were all males, and probably mostly right-handed, too. So what? Does that make us a right-handed male nation?
SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE is a myth that occurs nowhere in the Constitution of the United States.
It's a phrase used in civics classes to express the principle incorporated in the Constitution. Jefferson, one of the Constitution's authors, wrote "I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state ." Incidentally, Bro, Jefferson wrote this as an assurance to Baptists, who were afraid of being discriminated against back in those days.
This amendment does not say that a government may not, for example, post the ten commandments on public property
Yes it does, unless it's in some non-religious context. The US District Court ruled that Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore's posting of the Ten Commandments in his court was an unconstitutional endorsement of religion. The Supreme Court refused to hear the case (which essentially meant they agreed with the District Court ruling).
The Word of God is used in conjunction with some oath whenever a public official is sworn into office.
Only if the official chooses to do so. The Constitution forbids any religious test as a condition of office.
FACT: The most common pieces of material printed by our Government (currency) contains the phrase "In God We Trust"
Actually, money is printed by the Federal Reserve, which is not technically a government entity. It's a private bank.
"FACT: Since the creation of the Judicial system (excluding recent actions of the ACLU), anyone who testified in a court of law had to swear an oath before God to tell the truth with their hand on the Bible."
First, I've never heard of any other kind of "court" in the US where people have to swear things (although they choose to plenty on the tennis court). So calling it a "court of law" doesn't make you sound any smarter or more official.
Second, and more importantly, the Federal Rules of Evidence say you don't need to swear, raise your hand, worship God, or anything else to testify. You just have to say you're going to tell the truth.
It's interesting that in his first 'fact', he states that people came to America to escape catholicism, but in his sixth 'fact' he has no problem grouping catholics with people like himself so he can play his little numbers game.
What an ignorant twat. I'll just pick up on one error ... Maryland was founded by Catholics, dimwit. (As was Florida, California, Louisiana ...)
I really can't stand it when I hear people saying stuff like "the Constitution doesn't mention 'separation of church & state'", as if some literal mention of a word or phrase governs the law. Similar concepts can be referenced in a number of different ways. "Patents" and "copyrights" aren't mentioned in the U.S. Constitution either, but no one doubts the power of Congress to enact laws in these areas under Art. I, Sec. 8, Cl. 8.
So seriously Bro. Randy...STFU. </rant>
Randy, Randy, Randy! you've been sampling the communion wine again haven't you? silly boy, you know it goes straight to that micro-brain of yours! Australia is more of a christian nation that America is (after all our head of state is the Queen of England and she's also the head of the Church of England). you're founding fathers more than once commanded that they wanted to separate the church from the state! cause freedom of religion also means freedom from religion asstard!
Fact: the first European settlers came to America looking for PROFITS, not religious freedom.
Fact:People were forced here in captivity for money before your religious refugees arrived. The first slave ship arrived at Jamestown 5 years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth rock.
Fact:Your religious Pilgrims murdered Indians, gave them smallpox infected blankets(practiced chemical warfare), tortured and murdered Quakers, Catholics, and anaBaptists. And treated others very Un-Christian.
fact:The US Constitution is a secular document. Outside the standard "year of our Lord", the only mention of religion is a negative, demanding that religion may NOT be used as a requirement for a government job!!!
fact: No one is required to swear on a Bible in Congress to be sworn in, some Presidents have refused to be sworn in on Bibles(2 were Quakers and refused)
fact: Unlike our current liars-in-office who write in indecipherable legalese, our founders wrote exactly what they meant in clear English, which means the Church and State are to be seperate and NO STATE RELIGION is to be established !!!!
I would go on, but no point, Randy is just another fundie in a long line, making up shit to justify their fake history of our country as a fundie theocracy gone awry.
Fact: posting the 10 Commandments is "promoting religion."
All other religions (and no, I don't mean only Christian denominations) are protected by the law too, Randy. I know you hate that, but it's not going to change.
Not only the Treaty of Tripoli... but if you'd bother reading your own sacred text, Randy boy, you'd see that Jesus said to "render unto Caesar..." - yes, even Christ called for the separation of church and state!
Fact: Randy has totally overlooked the long, proud historical traditions of Baptists as the prime defenders of the separation of church and state. Once upon a time, the Baptists knew what it was like to get the short end of that stick.
Jefferson characterized the intent of the First Amendment as separation of church and state.
Placing Christian symbols on public property can be construed as an endorsement of Christianity and is not allowed under the establishment clause. The free exercise of religion does not mean you're free to impose your beliefs on others.
"In God We Trust" has appeared on paper currency only since the mid-50's. And that's a rather generic god, Randy, wouldn't you say?
Are the 80% of the population professing to be Christian the same 80% that is so badly persecuted?
If you're going to be "saved," who else in his right mind would care to be?
FACT: Some were, some weren't. Some were persecuted for their lack of faith, altogether.
FACT: Most were Deists, and had rather disparaging views on organized religion.
FACT: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" means that the government will take a null view to religion. Period. And your freedom to witness people at school ends at the child's freedom to worship as s/he sees fit. Unless you feel it's fair for the evil Witches, Wiccans and Satanists to witness to your children. Freedoms go both bays, buddy.
FACT: Not everyone is forced to observe it. And if congress jumped off a bridge, does that mean everyone else should too?
FACT: That is a byproduct of McCarthyist Cold War era paranoia.
FACT: That is more a "Believe in God" number...it dwindles as you set your usual qualifiers as to what a Christian is (Start with shaving off those eeeeeevil Catholics)
FACT: I can swear on a Beanie Baby for as much merit and effect. It only holds power if you believe in it.
FACT: Only because the "Religious Right" cries and whines if they are led by anything less than the Paragon of religion.
Finally...Treaty of Tripoli.
So, if this is a christian nation, what do we do?
Do we kill all the Jews? Do we kill all the Muslims (as bush wants)? Do we kill all the Mormons? Do we kill all the agnostics? Do we kill all the atheists? Do we kill all the Deists? Do we kill all the non-evangelical christians, such as the Catholics, the Episcopalians, the Lutherans, the Presbyterians, the Unitarians, etc...?
Just what do we do? Obviously evangelicals have no use for anyone else.
Anyone with an ounce of common sense should read the Constitution of this country, and realize that this country is not beholding to ANY organized belief system.
Or does this simple truth go against the blind faith manufactured by your warped little mind?
History revision does not change reality.
You can't escape from reality. You peddle your lies, but we end up laughing at you. You want to know why? Because you don't live in reality, Randy.
... Wow, that was really dark. Blame my love for creepyfuck.
* So they were persecuted by both Catholics and Protestants? And none of them figured out that building a state on one religion might be a stupid thing to do?
* Sure, but the Founding Fathers were deists or non-theists.
* Congress can't specify any religion over another one, you are free to be Buddhist, Protestant or Aeisir cultist if you want.
* When I was in school in the 70's and 80's, we started and ended each day by singing a hymn. Do you know which country is now one of the most atheistic in the world?
I still remember many of the hymns, I can recite most of the gospel according to Luke, I know Our Father by heart. But I'm still an atheist.
* Since the fifties, yes. It was not put there against Satan, but against the Red Scare.
* I bet about 80 % of those people say they are "sort of Christian". I.e. they haven't made a deliberate choice, it's just old habit.
* ACLU also defend your constitutional rights, ya know. How come I know that, but you don't?
* As most Americans are still Christians, by old habit or choice, it's easiest to start with God. If someone don't want that, I bet it can be changed to the deity of choice in a trice.
Mamon is much more worshiped than Christ in the US, ya know. Christ was just some commie hippie, after all, if you look closely.
FACT: Even today, in the face of overwhelming media bias which would lead us to believe otherwise, and the corresponding revision of history more than 80% of the population of the United States professes to be Christian
Professes, yes, maybe. But in reality, much much less people actually practice their religion. The screaming fundies are a minority, and they know it.
Even the USA cannot avoid the persistent trend in the western nations that the majority of people simply gets disinterested in religion, in droves:
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/Religion/post/2010/12/god-church-attendance-/1
Culturally, the US may be largely Christian, but that doesn't change the fact that legally , the US is in fact secular.
"no law respecting an establishment of religion"
This is why they try to say they're not a religion. To promote, display or operate under religious doctrane is all not allowed. Hence no religious doctranes or symbols in goverment building.
And certainly no statement of being a nation of one religion.
"FACT"S 1, 2, 3 and 9 are outright lies. Facts 5, 6 and 8 are irrelevent. Fact 7 is so utterly contrary to reality as to be psychotic.
Confused?
