Well, he should be familiar with believing in something that he thinks is 'real' - when it actually isn't. And 'Professional Wrestling' is 'believing' it's 'real' - when it isn't. 'Faith'. 'Kayfabe'. Same thing, really. When I want to see pretend fighting with a 'storyline', I'll watch a Bruce Lee or Jacky Chan film. If I want to see a real competition, with no fakery, contrivance, pre-determined moves and pre-decided bouts, I'll stick with Boxing*, Full-contact Karate & Tae Kwon-Do, Greco-Roman Wrestling (a la that in the Olympics) and Sumo**, thanks. Y'know, real. As in Factual. And not that which is like religion: Fictional.
*- A question, all you WWE/WCW fanboys: Does Professional Boxing require 'Storylines'? (there's as much hoo-ha and razzmatazz with the pre-fight buildup, to say nothing of the ring entries by the fighters etc). Does the fact there's no 'story', 'bookers', 'Kayfabe' etc affect Boxing's currently huge PPV sales? If your answer is the only one possible, you've not only destroyed your own argument, you've also annihilated any & all justifications for said WWE/WCW's continued existence as it is now. As in would it kill 'Professional Wrestling' to have the 'fakery', 'Kayfabe', 'storylines' etc eliminated, and - like Boxing - just be a pure one-on-one wrestling talent vs. wrestling talent competition.
Unlike the WWE/WCW, the NFL are the overseeing and overall organisation that controls Professional American Football in the USA. They may control everything, from the quality of merchandise sold to the public, to the multi-million dollar TV deals. But that's all they control. The teams themselves? They fight it out in the leagues to ultimately decide who wins that Vince Lombardi Trophy at the Superbowl. No 'fakery', 'Kayfabe', 'storylines', 'bookers', contrivance etc required. They truly 'Keep it Real'.
Oherwise, what do you get? The 1919 World Series 'Fix'. Which almost destroyed the sport of Baseball.
