[Did God form patterns (constellations) when he placed the stars in the sky?]
Think about the North Star that has guided travelers long before GPS, as well as other constellations used for that purpose.
Also, remember the importance placed on stars, such as the appearance of the Start of Bethlehem that led the Wise Men to find Jesus at His birth. I don't think that is coincidence.
God forbade worshipping stars and occultic practices such as astology. I would argue that He did this, not because there is nothing to it, but because there is something to it that is supernatural in nature and taps into powers beyond our control.
He did it on purpose, His purpose, whether we completely understand it or not. Nothing God does is random or meaningless.

Well then God probably should've figured in the earth's precession, which shifts the position of Polaris relative to the North Pole significantly. In fact it's only been in recent centuries that Polaris has been a closely aligned with true North, not thousands of years ago.
You also should try to remember that stars are not just big fireflies that can hover over a specific town, let alone a specific stable/cave in that town. With the exception of the Polaris, actually, no star ever stays nearly motionless over a specific spot relative to our point of view. They rise and set like the sun. So unless Jesus was born at the North Pole with Santa Claus...
Wow, yet another spin on "GODDIDIT!"
BTW, the constellations shift with the passing of millenia. And the North Star was the brightest one above magnetic north, so was used as a point of reference. No 'supernaturalism' there.

Regardless of the pattern of stars seen from Earth, Humanity would have picked celestial "landmarks" by which to navigate.
God forbade...occultic practices such as astology.
Many years later Jehovah's church forbade scientific practices such as astronomy.
God forbade worshipping stars...He did this, not because there is nothing to it, but because there is something to it that is supernatural in nature and taps into powers beyond our control.
Make up your mind. Is it Jehovah or the stars that controls our destiny? You can't have it both ways. Why? F*** you. That's why.
Yeah, I think everyone here covered the shifting of stars over time.
The constellations are imaginary, abritrary lines. The Chinese had constellations too, just different ones from the Greek.
God ain't nothing to do with it.
People navigated by the latitude of a star. Polynesian lore, for example, names some stars which pass directly over known islands. It's a matter of getting to the target latitude and moving east or west.
Arthur C Clarke wrote a speculative short concerning a possible nova at that time. Don't know if any other cultures had a record of it.
Of course, your god wasn't concerned about travelers in the Southern Hemisphere. Probably because they were heathens.
Were you born stupid or was it a lifestyle choice?
Astrology started out as the belief that God set the Heaven's in motion, and that studying the stars you could figure messages from God.
I fail to see how it's occult.
Starkle, starkle, little twink,
Who the hell you are I think.
(Makes no sense but seems pertinent.)
"Nothing God does is random or meaningless."
That's because you think so, but considering how "god" blames gays in San Francisco for a hurricane in the Carolinas, and blames divorce in New York for earthquakes in Thailand, how could you possibly tell?
“Think about the North Star that has guided travelers long before GPS, as well as other constellations used for that purpose.”
You know, if i was setting up something to guide travelers, I might have put it on the equator every night, where everyone could see it. Not restricted to the northern hemisphere.
Maybe a string of really shiny rocks in orbit over the equator? “We can see Scarlett but not Azure, that means we’re approaching….”
“Also, remember the importance placed on stars, such as the appearance of the Start of Bethlehem that led the Wise Men to find Jesus at His birth. I don't think that is coincidence.”
The stated purpose of stars in the sky was for signs and portents. Of course, in the Bible they roll around INSIDE the sky, which is solid, so it kinda detracts from that being a divine plan. And the Wise Men didn’t find Jesus until he was about 2, right?
“God forbade worshipping stars and occultic practices such as astology.”
The stars are FORE astrology, but he forbade it? Schmuck.
"Nothing God does is random or meaningless.”
At the end of the Flood, God took a couple hits off the sacrifices and bemoaned that Man was just wicked by his nature. The flood accomplished…fuck-all.
Confused?
