[a judge in New Jersey has said the state must allow gays to marry]
This is nothing new. It's been tried before. About 3000 years ago. I'm afraid we will suffer the same fate.

Funny thing about the story of Sodom: gay sex was at the far end of what was described as innumerable sins against outsiders and the poor.
The entire idea that homosexuality is central to this story comes from what the people of Sodom supposedly said to Lott just before the angels went on their killing spree. "What strangers have you brought into your house? Send them out that we may know them."
Now two things are important to remember: The destruction of the city was decided on before this ever happened, and the word "know" in the Bible is occasionally a euphamism for sex. Occasionally. The rest of the time it means what it normally means, otherwise Jesus constantly admitted to having sex with pretty much everyone.

If you mean the Native Americans they didn't really think it was a big deal. Not until after the Americas were colonized and many were forced into religious schools where sexual abuse was common at any rate.
yeah, right. I are smart, I now histori, I are men of got, beter then you!!
Since everyone is asking, I'm guessing John is referring to the meme that homosexuality caused Rome to fall. It makes no sense of course, and someone who actually knows about history could never entertain the notion. The 3000 year thing is probably John not knowing history.

After a religious dark age period we'll be looked upon with nostalgia and the new superpowers of the world will try to imitate us in art, politics, and philosophy meanwhile religion falls (again)? You really want to do that song and dance again? Because you got your ass beat last time and the Enlightenment led to the establishment of the secular governments fundies hate so much. You REALLY want to chance another Enlightenment? I don't think your religion can survive that.
Looking forward to losing your wife, getting wasted and fathering children with your daughters, are you John?
Or are you pretending not to know that part of the story?
@John_in_Oz
"The scholar and activist Jay Michaelson proposes a reading of the story of Sodom that emphasizes the violation of hospitality..."
Uh, you don't need some scholar to tell you that. The bible points it out.
Ezekiel 16:49
"Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy."
Um, no. Read your fucking Bible. Christ died for everyone's sins, hence there is no more divine retribution.
Do you even know the central point of your entire fucking religion?!

The USA existed 3000 years ago?! [/hyper-smartarse]

Speak for yourself pal. [/"MGLNStrikerS"]
What a horrendous fate. Will we all suffer the fate of something that allegedly happened 3000 years ago? Will we all endure a made-up consequence of spittle-flecking nothingness?
Shudder! I quakingly hope not! Cower! Snivel! We don't want to suffer the vile outcome of nothing-injurious-happening-to-us all because of what a New Jersey judge says.
Beware the Ides of 3000 years ago! A soothsayer hath spoke!
Now you just need to show us where, in your Bible, it says gays were married in Sodom and Gomorrah.
Or for that matter that it was destroyed or fell to total depravity for that gay reason.
So, we're gonna blow up over some ancient Delaware-tribe Two-Spirit nuptials?
Also, I always saw the Sodom-Gomorrah story as being about a couple of cities being God-nuked because literally every single citizen was a nightmarishly violent, selfish, perverted, sicko psychopath who enjoyed rape, murder, theft, selfishness, brutality, torture, beating up people, animal cruelty, etc....not an anti-gay thing.
Likewise, I never saw Eve as a temptress or "Female Bible Villain". I saw her as a total innocent who simply felt like having a fruity snack. Also, that she & Adam are equally culpable.
When you're a young kid, you see stuff in the Bible with different eyes.
Confused?
