How do you feel about the recent attempts by Christians to avoid getting their kids a real education?

Answer : Pros and Cons of Christian School:

Pros:

1. No shootings
2. No evolution
3. No drugs
4. No cursing
5. No gay

Cons:

1. I do not get to have sex before marriage
2. No beer
3. I do not get to get stoned
4. I don't get to beat up everyone that makes me mad
5. I don't get to be touched by gay people

Man, you're right i do live a deprived life don't i? I personally think the exact opposite of you.... When creation was taught what was the world like? When the Bible was in public schools what was the world like? But clearly evolution has done more to serve our fellow man....

I might have to deal with all of those things in the future yes, but in my christian school they are preparing me for my walk with Christ and how to react when i encounter those things...

As for your ending babble: correlation does not equal causation (the Bible being stripped of text book status is not necessarily the cause of whatever change that you deem to make the modern era worse than the post-industrial era).
And why do you assume that you would be (more of) a social failure in public schools with that relatively small number of kids in your grade? Public school is not inherently evil any more than Christian schools (or Christianity itself for that matter) are inherently good. Get a reality check.

6. You do not learn critical textual analysis of your holy scripture, but instad are taught to swallow whatever it is written therein as literal truth
7. You don´t learn proper science; very probably they will also use hypothesis that have been disproven already decades ago to show you why the bible is right (and science is wrong). You will probably also be confronted with non scientists like Kent Horvind as a role model, who prefer populism over scientific accuracy and got their titles from diploma mills.
8. Very probably you´ll get confronted with Rapturists and be in danger of spending your further life desperately waiting for the rapture.

I think you're full of shit. Well, except for number 1. I'm not aware of any shootings happening at an explicitly Christian school.

Ah, yes. How prepared you'll be too. Christian schools, well, suck. As far as I can tell the only thing they're good for is getting a little more money out of you even when you're not in church.

On a personal note, I have twin nieces who went to a private Catholic school from a very early age. Upon their graduation from high school they both celebrated by going out and promptly getting pregnant. And no, neither of them are married, planning to be or even with the father. Guess your Christian schooling isn't the cure all you thought it was, eh Chris?

I spent ten years in a Catholic school system, if you include Kindergarten and JK.

Our science programs were the shits. Anything I learned about science was out of the Encyclopaedia Brittanica.
An abandoned house near the school was used to stash alcohol, cigarettes, and dope.
While few of the guys were getting laid, many of their brothers were having sex with girls that went to our school. One guy used to bring pictures to show us.
A number of people I went to these schools with came out of the closet as adults.
Violence was a way of life for some of those kids. Enforcement of rules against violence was selective.

plus:

We had a pedophile teacher. He still teaches even though he's been up on dozens of pedophilia charges. (I don't know how the fuck he keeps beating those charges)

1. Shootings are rare in any school, and it is still possible for it to happen at you're school too.

2. Evolution happens everywhere, if you're referring to it not being taught, then you aren't receiving a good education if you don't hear both sides of the story.

3. Drugs are in EVERY school, the kids in some are just better at hiding it.

4. Prove that no one at you're school is going to swear, even when no one is watching, or else this is BS.

5. It's not impossible for someone to be gay and go to christian school. Just like any other school, some kids are going to hide it from fear of being outcast.

1. Then I really fucking pity you.

2. Beer has never really appealed to me, but I guarantee you someone at you're school will get drunk.

3. Again, they've never really appealed to me, but I pity you for not having the chance.

4. You shouldn't do that wherever you are. People who do that are generally either very short tempered or mentally unstable.

5. Gay people aren't rapists, and I don't know where people get the idea that they are. Worst case scenario, he hits on you and you tell him you're not gay, he apologizes and then there's an awkward moment that you'll either forget about or laugh at in a few months/years.

Funny thing. I went to Christian schools for my entire scholastic career--altho' my high school was Catholic, so I guess it wouldn't count to this kind of person. I wasn't shot at, and I never saw any drugs (mainly, I think, 'cos I was, and still am, a gigantic nerd), and in high school you could get written up if a teacher heard you swear, but I definitely learned about evolution in both elementary/middle school and high school.

Also, while I was too huge a nerd to finagle my way into those sorts of parties, there were several Mondays on which I strongly suspected some of my classmates were nursing epic hangovers. I also knew at least one couple who were probably having sex (yes, only one; it was a very small school), and--shock of shocks!--I was actually acquainted with two guys who were very likely gay. They may even have touched me at some point. Astonishing, I know.

...The hell kind of Lord of the Flies High scenario is this? Maybe I'm naive about this, but as much of a hellhole as many schools in the U.S. undoubtedly are, I still doubt that student-on-student beatdowns are some kind of normal daily event.

How many kids do I know that were sent to Christian schools to clean their act up. They always had the best drugs. I went to a Christian school for a year, it had a total of 12 students.
- I got beat up (by the teachers)
- We had a dealer in our midsts.
- I could curse like a sailor
- They were arranging my marriage (after all I was 13)
Fortunately it was shut down for being useless, unfortunately I had to repeat the grade because it was like I hadn't been at school for a year. For my other 12 years of public school, I never got drugs at school, I never got beer at school, I got beat up, but at least I could fight back, and I was never touched by a gay person.

As far as public school goes. I can see that you are being indoctrinated well to fear the OUTSIDERS.

See there's something you people don't understand. You're straight - right? Does that mean you go up and grope every female you see becuse you're sexually attraced to females? No, so gay men don't go up and just touch other men.

Besides, have you seen some of the priate school girls? some of them are fucking whores. waaaaaaay worse than any of the girls i went to school with! My ex boyfriend went to a very renowned private school, and some of the sex shit he learned there... well... ;) it was awesome!!!

I went to school in a country that had a state religion then. We sang a hymn at the beginning of each day, and a short thanksgiving at the end.
During the first three years we were taught Christianity, not Religion.

There were still evolution taught.
There were still cursing
There were probably still gay people.
There were probably still drugs, later on, in school.
OK, there were no shootings. To my knowledge we haven't had any school shootings in Sweden.

1. People still have sex before marriage, many people never marry, but live together indefinitely, having several children, and maybe then they marry, for the sake of inheritance laws.
2. People definitely drink beer.
3. No stonings, though. Isn't that your OT god's favorite punishment, even for trivial things? Oooh, you mean stoned as in too much drugs. Man, my brain was on the wrong track there...
4. Bullying existed, sure. I bet it does at your school too, it just doesn't concern you.
5. Touched by gay people? I've been "touched" by many heterosexual people who I would have liked to avoid.

When creation was taught, we were living in the Dark Ages.
The Bible was in public schools in Sweden when I was young, it was still a Socialist nation.
Evolution was also in schools then, and it has done infinitely more to modern medicine, than the Bible has.

Why weren't you able to play basketball? I played basketball in school, even though I didn't want to.
