(in reply to question : How could a mother enjoy Heaven, knowing that her atheist son will be tortured forever in the fires of Hell? )
"all those in Heaven will be eternally happy and sadness etc will not be felt, and along with this they will no longer be related as they were on earth, as all will be of one family of God and as such will fully realize that those who freely chose to reject God`s love, deserve to be where they are, and will not have any attachment to them whatsoever."

Pardon my immature mind, but that sounds VERY wrong
Glad she's not my mom.

@Thammuz
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that. From the description that some christians give heaven, it makes me imagine a big white prison, full of people too stoned to actually do anything except drool at the feet of their master.
so part of paradise is the process of having your feelings and memories "edited". You are definitely not the same person, but a "Stepford wife" automaton, unable to remember, empathise or mourn for your lost family.
Truly, madly, sickeningly...
You know, a lot of those people on there have no problem with the idea of having damned loved ones completely erased from their memories forever or God completely erases people's ability to have compassion or care about their 'former' loved ones in hell. The only thing many Christians really give a crap about is their own eternal bliss and are willing to discard everyone else, even their own children. What selfish, disgusting pieces of human waste.
My personal answer (as an Atheist) would be: I wouldn't even step foot in Heaven without my kids. If they aren't allowed in, I wouldn't want to be there ether. I'd rather burn with my children then abandon them to be tormented while I live it up like a scumbag.
Tell me again comrade, how will distopian authoritarian communism bring us happiness?
"The communist system will make all people happy. Our happiness collar will rewire your emotions. All will be pleasant. All will be good."
""as such will fully realize that those who freely chose to reject God`s love, deserve to be where they are""
Wow. Just...wow. I cannot imagine embracing an existence in which I would be indifferent to suffering of people I love in this life, particularly if I would also believe they DESERVE this suffering.
I'd rather burn in hell than be surrounded by these smug, self-righteous bastards.
And Christians make a large deal about all the experiences we go through on Earth to prepare ourselves for heaven and everything, when it seems like none of it will matter if we're all brainwashed so that we don't have to feel guilty or upset about the terrible injustice done by the all-merciful, just "God" they worship. Why do Christians wonder why I cannot bring myself to worship such a... creature?
@Blayze Kohime
I'm glad I'm not the only pacifist here that also wouldn't want to see anyone, including terrible people, suffer for all eternity.
So Heaven is a place where your mind is reprogrammed?
But if God reprograms me, I will no longer be 'me'.
So how is that 'eternal life'?
I want to see a movie about this. A sort of Matrix /The Island thing, where some guy in heaven wakes up and realises that God is a malevolent douche and everyone around him is a brainwashed idiot. All the stories about hell have been fabricated, Satan's basically a regular joe who received bad press... Somebody make this; I'd buy advance tickets for it.
Much to my eternal annoyment, that IS what the Bible says - the first part at least. The Brick Testement does it well.
Man: (thinking) My wife is burning in hell.
God: (wiping away his tears) No more tears.
This is the same question that got me out of Religion.
There is nothing like a mother's love for her child (or, there's supposed to be nothing like it.) If God can simply replace that love with an undying devotion to him, why bother loving at all? It's utterly meaningless in the grand scheme of things, because this life is only ephemeral compared to eternity. What good does it do, and what does that mean for Jesus' teachings about love?
If God can't replace that love, then how can a mother be happy in heaven watching her son suffer for an eternity? How can it be heaven for a mother to not be with her child?
If you believe in Hell, chew on that one for a while.
“"all those in Heaven will be eternally happy and sadness etc will not be felt,”
So, the Faith offers no really good answer for the faithful having feelings for sinners in hell, so we’ll just ignore it.
I swear, if a playwright just waved his handsa nd all the bad subplots melted away it wuold not be satsifying, would it? If Palpatine just exploded, or if the evil stepmother just evaporated and floated away on the breeze, or if all the Nazis just got up and left? Who wants to live that way? Brainwashed, amnesiacs…
What a thoughtless fucking cop-out. A toddler can make a better excuse.
Confused?
