Why is this argument used against mandatory prayer in public schools?
People say that this would violate people's freedoms, since people are "free to practice whatever religion they want." In other words, a mandatory prayer session in school would be "disrespectful" to Wiccans, Hindus, Muslims, and atheists.
My questions is.........since when does this matter? Why should we respect the "freedom" of those who do not show the proper respect to our Heavenly Father? Do we give this same respect to the people who exercise their "freedom" to go out and rob banks, kill children, and do other such things?
Let me answer that one for you. No, we don't.

If you are seriously comparing Wiccans, Hindus, Muslims, and atheists to bank robbers and murderers, then you are a fucking moron. Get out of my gene pool.
Your Heavenly Father is an imaginary being, a fantasy figure and not real.
Want prayer in school? evidence for this god thingy, please and no, the babble is not evidence.
How does this asshole define "proper respect?" I suppose he means that everybody, including the "Wiccans, Hindus, Muslims, and atheists" among us should be forced, through the power of the government, to fall at the alter of his god. I, for one, will NEVER be forced to grovel at the feet of someone's imaginary friend.

My questions is.........since when does this matter? Why should we respect the "freedom" of those who do not show the proper respect to Allah? Do we give this same respect to the people who exercise their "freedom" to go out and rob banks, kill children, and do other such things?

And if someone made this suggestion instead, you would have been outraged.
I reckon the non-existence of God is imaginary because I can't believe a big invisible nothing floating in the sky creating the universe. You silly atheists and your nothingness. ;P sorry I had to do that, I'm bored.
Anyway, I would be completely fine with prayer if they set up places for all religious practices to do it. Secondly its not nice to call atheism a religion, they don't like their belief in nothingness to be qualified.
Oh, wait, you said mandatory, you're a dickhead. Oh and keep it away from science as well, first we let it in, then it sneaks into our lab classes. If any prayer goes on, it should be done in a building dedicated to philosophy or social studies.
Since when do we not show you proper respect for your beliefs? The only time we don't respect your beliefs is when you don't respect ours. After all, you have to give respect in order to receive it.
And if you are seriously going to compare atheists and other religious people to cold-blooded killers then it's no wonder you aren't getting any respect.
You're not in charge! Christians do not make the laws, laws are made by secular appointed representitives. Your constitution makes that clear.
Quit pretending Christians created the free world, it's here despite religious beliefs. get used to it, iy's whats allowed your wacko brands of faith a place to be free
I think this may have been a troll, since the question is "resolved" and the best answer (chosen by the asker) is:
"Best Answer - Chosen by Asker
You can NOT possibly be serious!!! "
Yeah, actually, in the USA you ALWAYS are guaranteed the right to free religion.
And mandatory prayer would establish a state religion, which is illegal under that one government document you guys are always quoting.
. <<<<---a clue.
You--->>>> .
Umm, since the time the Constitution was ratified. And the difference between bank robbers, murderers, and those who don't pray to your fucking god is that bank robbery and murder are illegal you dumbass.
Oh you don't have. The government HAS to respect other people's religions. It's part of this thing called the Bill of Rights. Now you can be disrespectful towards other people's religions, but you can't have the public school do it for you, and you best be damn sure the face the consequences of doing so.
The flaw in your argument is that you are the one engaging in criminal behavior by forcing your religion on other people. You are the same as people who "rob banks, kill children, and do other such things."
You are right though, we shouldn't give up our rights for the criminal element (you).
Uh, that's not even the legal justification for barring mandatory or school-sponsored prayer. Kids can pray in school all they want, so long as they don't make such a fuss about it that others are distracted from learning.
The reason for banning school-sponsored prayer is to prevent religious favoritism. You never know if the teacher, principal or governor will belong to a church you agree with, so they're barred from using the school's authority to promote their own religion.
[My questions is.........since when does this matter? ]
Since around 200 years ago, when the Bill Of Rights was drafted.
[Why should we respect the "freedom" of those who do not show the proper respect to our Heavenly Father? ]
Prove that this "heavenly father" exists, then people might respect him more.
But anyway if you don't respect other people, then why should we respect you?
[Do we give this same respect to the people who exercise their "freedom" to go out and rob banks, kill children, and do other such things? ]
Typical. People like you are always trying to pull this arguement. Bank robbers and murders have nothing to do with people's rights.
My questions is.........since when does this matter?
Around about 1776.
First Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Why should we respect the "freedom" of those who do not show the proper respect to our Heavenly Father?
Because the law of the land demands that you do so. I can assure you that, if you don't respect our freedoms, we will certainly not respect yours.
Do we give this same respect to the people who exercise their "freedom" to go out and rob banks, kill children, and do other such things?
What mental disability do you labor under that allows you to equate a disbelief of your religion with robbery and infanticide?
Let me answer that one for you. No, we don't.
Neither do the others you listed. How would you feel about being forced to bow and pray towards Mecca? My bet is you would be the first one to piss and moan about YOUR rights.
Now, y'see, I mostly consider the Constitution a deeply flawed document which was written to ensure the continued dominance of rich white men over everyone else.
The First Amendment, though (along with some other significant high points)? Right the fuck on. The Confessor should consider reading it sometime.
Sauce for good: sauce for gander.
If you don't practice tolerance for others, why should others show you any tolerance.
In fact, you are a self-righteous bigot who would probably spit at Jesus because he's a Jew. Don't forget that. You precious Jesus is a Jew, so off the to gas chamber with him! Oh, and also the rest of the crew in the Gospels. That's you saying this, not me. I am merely extending your attitude to its logical conclusion.
"Why should we respect the "freedom" of those who do not show the proper respect to our Heavenly Father? Do we give this same respect to the people who exercise their "freedom" to go out and rob banks, kill children, and do other such things? "
You're right. From now on only prayers to allah will be allowed in public schools. Those who don't show the proper respect to the One True God Allah get no respect in return.
Actually, the Muslims could just do their du'a in such a session. They believe that their god is the same as yours. In fact, they seem to be a lot more flexible and humble in this matter than you guys.

Uh, your heavenly father does not exist. Maybe that's why?
Also, you are a fucking idiot.
Since Atheists, Hindus, and Muslims combined make up 7.64% of the USA Prison population, that pisses on your firework from the start.
BTW, there are NO Wiccans behind bars at all, and good, honest, "walk-on-water", god-fearing christians make up 80.26% behind bars.

Of course this isn't in your fucking bible, so it doesn't matter, does it?
I'm Wiccan and I am somewhat offended by that! I have never in my live robbed a bank or killed a child, or any other serious (or not so serious) crimes.
However, from actual history and the bible I've learned that this is common practice in christianity!
No, we don't. People who rob banks, kill children, and "other such things" go to jail because they BREAK THE LAW.
Freedom of religion is one of our most basic legal rights. It's in the Constitution, printed in black and white. People who worship differently from you (or don't worship at all) have the right to do so.
Mandatory prayer would curtail that right--violating the constitution. In other words, it would BREAK THE LAW.
What do we do with folks who break the law, again?
Let me answer that one for you. We put them in jail.
"o we give this same respect to the people who exercise their "freedom" to go out and rob banks, kill children, and do other such things"
No but what does that have to do with people respecting your god? Well except that he did advocate the killing of children in the Old Testament.
"Why should we respect the "freedom" of those who do not show the proper respect to our Heavenly Father? "
Why should I respect your religion if I am not allowed to have mine? Why respect you if you won't show it to me?
First thing in the morning, after the Pledge, Teacher asks for a volunteer to lead the class in prayer. Arwujala Patel gets up and leads everyone in a Hindu prayer, or Mohammad al-Sa'id gets up and leads everyone in a morning prayer facing Mecca. Raise your hand if you think The Confessor (Righteous One) will be the first and loudest to complain to the school board about violating his constitutional rights.
Maybe because I want the freedom of choice of not having your particular brand of bollocks being shoved down my child's throat, and certainly not at the cost of the taxpayer, perhaps?
In the same way that you'd protest if there was an Islamic prayer every day before school, perhaps?
Of course, thanks to David Cameron's initiative with "free schools", its going to bit a bit harder to avoid because he's a spineless cunt like Blair.
The difference is that I take this approach to all religions and I am thus not, unlike you, a complete hypocrite.
Go and fuck yourself.
The very first church-state separation lawsuit was about school prayer.
Catholics complaining that their kids were forced to sit thru Baptist prayers in the classroom.
So, if the whole school prayer issue was atheist vs theist, one might look to this first case and ask, 'Why does it matter? Isn't itbthe same superstition?' But apoarently the difderence mattered to someone...
Confused?
