No. It`s about two adults falling in love with each other, two compatibile programs recompiling, two being sharing one life for good and bad. An ultimate expression of loyalty and empathy.
Nothing else and it should be about anything else, as long as the government is concerned.
But there's nothing a homosexual couple can do sexually that heterosexual couples can't and don't do as well. It's nice that you're concerned about others engaging in unsafe sex, but it's not really any of your business. Who appointed you the judge of what constitutes the "proper way" for anyone to have sex? Just because you don't approve doesn't mean it's "improper."
Trust me Spud, if we took away straight couple's marriages for having "improper" sex, there wouldn't be many left.
Besides, marriages aren't about "the assumption that they will use sex ... properly". That can happen or not happen in marriage, and it can happen or not happen in unmarried people. Marriage is about the legal and social framework necessary to live one's life with another.
In the same way that civilization has matured sufficiently to realize it is none of their business what any given heterosexual couple does to please each other, it is none of your business what any homosexual couple do together. There is no societal benefit to the regulation of private sexual behavior ...and there is no possible way to regulate it either. You cannot (and you should not) put your fellow citizens under a microscope. You wouldn't want them to be watching you, would you?

But we don't need marriage to "use" sex for its "intended" purpose, nor is it the primary or even secondary motivator for most. Nor, for that matter, does the law say anything of the sort. You don't get to introduce exceptions or additional stipulations to the law on the fly.

Why do people like this insist that somehow we as humans are superior to other animals and then when it comes down to a legitimate way in which our species differs from most other animals (namely, having sexual relations for reasons other than reproduction) they say we should only engage in it in a manner the way most other animals do...

I swear this is one of the shittiest aeguments against gay marriage ever.
Sex for humans have the purpose of keeping parents together for years and years, as our offspring take 7-12-18 years to mature enough to care for themselves. That's why human females have constantly swollen mammary glands.
Same sex couples can have almost the same forms of sex, and be assumed to do it just as safely and properly as opposite sex couples have.
What forms of unsafe sex are you imagine that lesbians are tempted to use?
It's already legitimized in most Western countries. Move to Saudi Arabia if you don't like it.
