The fact that the hairs on the back of your neck stand up to even try to spell God with a capital G, leads me to believe that somewhere inside you, you doubt your convictions. Hairs standing up on your neck, is a fear reaction. You would not fear something which your soul knew for certain did not exist.

@Mech610: Because he was replying to a specific commenter who _said_ it makes the hairs on the back of his neck stand up to capitalize "God," at the end of a bit of a rant. In that context, it was a perfectly reasonable remark, IMO. Meh'd.
I don't know Dick, I still don't take my eyes off of statues when I pass them, even though I am reasonably sure the Weeping Angels aren't real...
Also I am quite scared that a velociraptor lives in the shadows when I turn off the light, despite the fact that the last raptor died out in 1974. So imaginary stuff can be scary, if you have enough imagination.
what soul?
let's see:
god, God, gOd, GOd, GOD... no hair standing up. Well guess he/she/it doesn't exist.
This doesn't happen to me and I really doubt it happens to any Atheist.
Now you lot, the self proclaimed Christians may twinge at the word (it's a title bitch, not a name) and are in fact more likely to omit the capital or oddly use an asterisk in place of the o.
I'm thinking it's another comment meant entirely for the flocks to keep up the "everyone believes and fears "g*d" <official fundie spelling)so don't feel stupid for believing"
God
God
God
Nothing, not a twitch bitch.
“The fact that the hairs on the back of your neck stand up to even try to spell God with a capital G”
This is not a fact. “God” is a word. A job description. I can discuss Biblegod, Greek gods, Egyptian, Cthulhu mythos, Newhonian, and that giggling sun on Teletubbies without a bodily reaction.
"leads me to believe that somewhere inside you, you doubt your convictions.”
Well, your atheist fanfic starts from a faulty premise, so it impacts me a little less than not at all.
"Hairs standing up on your neck, is a fear reaction.”
Or cold. Could happen when I’m cold.
“You would not fear something which your soul knew for certain did not exist.”
Again, you’re getting a LOT of mileage from something that doesn’t happen…
But, let’s say it did.
Am I necessarily in fear of God?
I grew up in a religion. MAYBE I’m afraid of the Sunday School Teacher (who was also my Aunt) and her response to being irreverent with respect to gawds.
Or maybe an English Teacher had a rule to always capitalize God in her class and a yardstick to enforce it.
This is why lie detector results are not submissible in court.
Confused?
