But you see, if someone tells you a number or statistic like that, it is pretty easy to control if it can be correct. Even if you cannot do the math in your head, we have these things called “calculators” and “computers” today, which can help you.
Should we take a look at the numbers?
A rate of 650 conversions from Islam to Christianity per hour would mean a total of 15,600 conversions per day (650*24 hours). You still with me? OK.
A rate of 15,600 conversions per day would mean a total of 5,694,000 conversion per year (15,600*365 days, for the sake of simplicity we will ignore things as leap years). So far so good.
Now we get to a tricky part. To judge how realistic this number is we need to know how many people are living in Iraq. Luckily, we are living in a time one could call “The Information Age”. Everyone with a computer with internet access is able to connect to the greatest collection of knowledge (and porn) in the history of mankind. It takes just a few second on Wikipedia to learn that in 2009 the population of Iraq was about 29,000,000 people.
With this information we can calculate how long it would take before the whole country of Iraq would be a “Christian Nation”. 29,000,000/5,694,000 equals about 5 years. (Of course this ignores the fact that Iraq had already a Christian minority before the US and their allies invaded, but I am sure you knew that already.) So, as your post is from November 19, 2006, the total conversion of Iraq should have happened about Christmas 2011, at the latest.
So we can conclude that whoever told you this totally unrealistic number either pulled it out their respective anus or they were also told it by someone else and didn’t bother to do the checking we just did. Either way this person is not someone I would listen to
