[And in the Ancient (Olympic) Games, weren't the losers killed, as a sacrifice to their gods? ]
That's right. And speaking of which, I recently read a report by several scientists who will be attending the UN Earth Summit in Rio this summer. The humanity hating climate gang is going to begin calling for not only the increase in abortions and birth control worldwide as they have now for decades, but also the involuntary elimination of existing people.
So with those pretenses it won't be long before murder as spectacle, as the ancient pagans so delighted in, becomes acceptable. Humanity is being redefined as disposable.

That's funny. I thought you raptards would be viewing global warming as a sign of the end times.
"[And in the Ancient (Olympic) Games, weren't the losers killed, as a sacrifice to their gods?]"
Nope.
In the olympics, the losers went home in disgrace, and tried again four years later.
At no point in history has murder been a "spectacle" that any people "so delighted in".
Most (see all) pagan peoples had strict laws against murder.
The first ruler sending out his/her subjects to war redefined humanity as disposable.
You don't have to go back as far as the ancient pagans to find delight in murder. Just look at the witch trials and blasphemy trials in Europe and the US, where people delighted in watching people burn at the stake.
Have you actually read your Bible? There are chapters upon chapters about burnt offerings for this, that and the other.
Did you know that in the Ancient (Olympic) Games people were naked. That is what the greek word "gymnos" (which can be found in "gymnastics") means.
"So with those pretenses it won't be long before murder as spectacle, as the ancient pagans so delighted in, becomes acceptable. Humanity is being redefined as disposable."
At least the muslim part of humanity.
Oh wait, you wern't talking about conservatives.
Murder as spectacle? You mean like an auto de fe?
Ooh that's right ... you whack jobs think Catholics are pagans, too.
Sigh.
Never mind, you obviously don't even live on this planet any more.
The original thread was of course started to show that, through historical re-enactment, the new world order is secretly revealing its intention to kill all Christians and force everybody to be Pagan baby eaters.
I think it's funny that even though they say atheists must be gloomy and have nothing to look forward to, it's them who consistently see the worst in absolutely everything they see

"At no point in history has murder been a "spectacle" that any people "so delighted in"."
Erm... pretty sure the numerous people killed in the Roman arena would disagree with you there, sport...
Wow. They've confused the Greeks with the Mayans. That has got to be a record.
Also, citation needed on that last thing. If your source is The Onion, then by the rules of forensics you must concede that you have lost and become a radical environmentalist.
Isn't there a part in the Bible about how a guy asks god to help him win a war, and he offers the 'first thing that greets him' when he comes home as a sacrifice. And it turns out to be his daughter, and instead of stopping it just before he kills her and offering a lamb instead like god did before.. he lets him kill his daughter and offer her as a burnt sacrifice?
Oh yeah, and stories of human sacrifice in parts of places like Nigeria and other brainwashed and poverty stricken lands in Africa(purportedly in the same areas where children are being beaten, killed and abandoned as witches by good Christian townspeople) in the name of Jesus being done today for magical wish granting purposes.
There's that too.
Um, idiot? First, I love how you generalize and more or less say that ALL the ancient pagans were into blood sports (even though the Olympics never resulted in death except by accident). Way to prove your stupidity and douchebaggery. Fact is, pagans, in general, were ethically, morally, and intellectually superior to christians in the past, and from what I've seen, maintain that status to this day. Without them, science and medicine wouldn't exist. The computer you used to type out this stupid bullshit wouldn't exist. Now why don't you go back to drooling in your hole? Carry on.
"...it won't be long before murder as spectacle, as the ancient pagans so delighted in..."
Of course, it was St. Thomas Aquinas who said (paraphrasing) that one of the joys for the people in heaven will be watching the torture of those in hell.
Pale Horse? More like, "Dim Bulb." That might be an Ad Hom. attack, except that you have furnished such adequate proof. Your stupidity precedes you like a bad case of halitosis. Stop typing and go back to fishing with dynamite or something equally charming.
Let's see...
The Onion is true, environmentalists want to kill people, and fundies never went for murder spectacles.
It must be Opposite Day again.
The humanity hating climate gang is going to begin calling for not only the increase in abortions and birth control worldwide as they have now for decades, but also the involuntary elimination of existing people.
WTH?! If they hate themselves that much, wouldn't they just commit suicide?...
Then again, this conspiracy would be going on to fulfill "prophecy," i.e. the manic visions of a guy in a cave who almost certainly never even met the (potentially) real guy the Jesus legend was based on, so it not making sense actually makes a lot of sense.
Two men enter, one man leaves! Two men enter, one man leaves! On another note, I find it odd that they're upset by this. Even if this nonsense were true, one would think they would be happy to finally die and float off into the sky to sit on clouds with their imaginary buddy. In fact, isn't it bonus nutty Christian points to be killed by pagans?
"...it won't be long before murder as spectacle, as the ancient pagans so delighted in, becomes acceptable."
Oh dear! Let's hope that 'murder as spectacle' does not become acceptable either now or in the far flung future. Instead let us hope that it becomes something that will happen ...er soon.
Um. No. You made that up. They do not want the involuntary elimination of already existing people.
Yes, population control is important, especially in certain places. Yes, we should do this now before we fuck our planet over and us by proxy.
Losers in athletic contests, including the Olympics, were most certainly not killed in ancient Greece.
The ancient Greeks were more civilized than YOU are.
No, they were not sacrificed in Ancient Greece.
Some historians said this was the case of the Aztecs, Incas and/or Mayan civilizations. But much history has been lost so it is not a hard fact.
The humanity hating climate gang is going to begin calling for not only the increase in abortions and birth control worldwide as they have now for decades, but also the involuntary elimination of existing people.
(a) Any fool can make up speculation out of thin air about stuff that hasn't actually happened yet.
(b) How do you know this is true?
(c) Even if it is, you can find whack-jobs of every persuasion advocating all sorts of ridiculous stuff. Just Google "Aryan Nation" for idiots on the other side of the spectrum.
Under the Roman Empire there was lots of cruelty and murder, sure, Circus Maximus where they killed captured enemies to thrilled crowds. Feed more than Christians to the lies too.
The Olympics were Roman games of a more civilized (yet naked, and most distressing only with male participants, oh well, there's always those statues)order.
In America today (especially in RR ) there are loads of Evangelists calling for public flogging, public execution and by fuckin' stoningthem to death, and their revenge fantasys are dreams of witnessing mass suffering!
Don't even ever suggest you Rapturites hold some high moral ground. Rome was brutal to outsiders at a higher level than ever seen before or during but the same shit was happening in many other parts of the world and continues to happen.
It's obvious that the defanging of the church rule in Europe and the refusal to allow church legal rule and enforcment in America is what civilized the entire Western World. An exposure to and understanding of Eastern Philophosy didn't hurt, most of our modern rights and laws were established in India, Arab and European pagan ages.
I have a great idea, let's make as many kids as possible and leave them a resource-depleted and polluted planet. After all, they must have stupid, selfish predecessors to look down on.
You Fail History Forever
In fact, quoting Wikipedia's sources:
During the Olympic Games, a truce was observed ... runners were sent to the participant cities at each set of games to announce the beginning of the truce. During this period, armies were forbidden from entering Olympia, wars were suspended, and legal disputes and the use of the death penalty were forbidden . The truce was primarily designed to allow athletes and visitors to travel safely to the Games and was, for the most part, observed.
So, ideally, nobody was killing anybody during the games.
Even the Romans' games, with their gladiator fights and hippodrome crashes, weren't that deadly. The risk of death was certainly there, but too high a death rate was bad for business.
And in the Ancient (Olympic) Games, weren't the losers killed, as a sacrifice to their gods?
No, that was the aztecs and their ball game.
The humanity hating climate gang is going to begin calling for not only the increase in abortions and birth control worldwide as they have now for decades, but also the involuntary elimination of existing people.
WTF? Lying for [insert religion] again.
If you need to lie for your belief, then your belief is a lie.
The Olympic Games never involved human sacrifice. The Greeks valued humanity.
Perhaps you are thinking of America, where the Aztecs did kill the losing team.
TheLastCenturion
what the fuck is this guy talking about? the closest thing i can come up with to fit into this is the ancient aztec religion, where two teams played a game similar to basketball, and the losers were sacrificed to the gods.
to my knowledge in Greece Olympian athletes were all but worshipped, win or lose. even in rome, the only ones who were killed for sport were criminals sentenced to die in the arena, and professional gladiators, whose job it was to try and kill criminals sentenced to die, in the arena.
Humanity hating? So, you mean we want to protect the environment so that every species but humans has clean air, clean water, and temperatures conducive to agriculture and just generally living without frying? Yeah, makes sense to me.
Rio, huh? Yeah, except Brazilians aren't exactly fond of abortions or birth control, being devout Catholics and all. What do those have to do with climate change, anyway? Non sequitur/slippery slope much?
And how is taking care of this wet chunk of rock we live on[/img] hating humanity? This is what humanity lives on. Stop denying climate change before our planet's climate goes crazy, and no, snow does not disprove climate change. That's weather. Climate can affect weather, but they're not the same. I should mention that here in southeastern Illinois it's been very hot and dry compared to last summer, which was extremely wet. I do not want climate change to make either a regular weather pattern in this area's climate.
Murder as spectacle ? Mmmm, have you ever watched TV ? There are probably at least a dozen murders portrayed each and every night on the 'one-eyed soul sucker' and nobody bats an eye, but one femtosecond of a nipple and you all go librarian poo.
As for the rest...
Confused?
