How is defending Islam indicative of: 1. Not being peaceful.
As for hating China: he might, but he could be justified in that for all we know. But, given that he firmly scolded Tibetan Buddhists who launched attacks against Chinese citizens in response to some perceived slight, I think that even this is untrue.

talk about not seeing the forest for the trees. Buddhism is peaceful, and he is saying violence begets violence. The Dalai Lama doesn't 'hate' anyone, and he would even be nice to you. Not that you truly deserve it.
I think "humanist" is code for when a Liberal will discuss issues other than Abortion and Gay Rights and they need to use it as a catch-all when Liberals bring up other issues. Because Liberals and other people can seem like they are making sense, and there might be something more in depth to Liberal thought.
In other words, other people will distract good Fundie Christians with issues to worry their pretty little heads with.

You know, from studying history, it is very clear that the few cases of "Buddhist violence" in history was when a few power-hungry people tried to hide behind Buddhism as an excuse to murder their enemies. A militant Buddhist, is by definition, a deluded Buddhist. By contrast, any dictator can find loads of justifications for tyranny just by perusing the O.T. for an hour.
There is not a single credible Buddhist doctrine condoning violence or oppression in any way.
