ElectricSkeptic:
Evolution is neither an ideology, a worldview, or a belief system. It's a scientific theory.
It's excellent science and it's not philosophy at all.
lightwave:
You are utterly and completely wrong about all of the above
Evolution is a belief system and the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind
it has adherents and evangelists, persecutes its heretics, excommunicates its apostates, shouts down its nay-sayers and demands loyalty and exclusivity among its faithful

No - that's your religion.
And only certain fundie branches who damage the reputation of the religion as a whole.

Glad to hear that's your definition of a belief system. Let's me know what you think of your own religion.
Evolution Religion is a belief system and the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind

Fixed.
weeell..
most people don't understand it, but believe people (scientists) who do understand current theory and (try to) explain it logically.
Most students of evolution would admit that there are gaps.
What none say is that there is a supernatural element to it that cannot ever be proven.
Dear me, do you really think all belief systems do that? You mustn't be happy in yours.
Adherents of evolution are called scientists, or supporters of the theory. I don't think I've *ever* come across an evangelist of evolution. Science doesn't persecute anybody. I'm not sure what an apostate of evolution would be. All scientists are perfectly happy to listen to naysayers if they have a good case. And as for exclusivity, I know plenty of Christians, Muslims, etc. who believe in evolution.

That's all just as true of the 1+1=2 gang you find in the math department.
Did you know they demand the right to teach everybody that "fact" without exception? Did you know you can be fired for disagreeing? Did you know they call you "ignorant" and "stupid" if you don't think 1+1=2?
Good grief I'm getting tired of these "evolution=religion=unproven=unscientific" people. Can't they all just crawl into the basements of their churches or panic rooms or whatevers and stay there waiting for that rapture of theirs?
Please? Pretty Please?
I'm not a violent person but these people make me want to grab a two-by-four and swing it about in the proximity of their craniums.
"Most students of evolution would admit that there are gaps."
Thats the beauty of science - we don't know all the answers and we don't say we do know all the answers. We are always discovering new things about how the world and our universe works. We are open to new facts disproving what we previously thought to be the truth.
Unlike Christianity who claim they know everything there is to know about the world and anything that isn't from the bible is wrong and put there by satan.
Kudos to lightwave for being able to string more words together than "evolution is just a theory", mind.
Shame he's still a raving knob-jockey :/

If you send in your money, you too can be healed by the powers of Darwin! I say, do you-uh believe Darwin is gonna cure you of your apeness? Do you-uh believe he's gonna give you more brain mass and the ability to make and use tools? Let the power of Darwin flown on through you!
Not fair, in the UK at least some macdonalds burger flippers are educated and know something about logic, reasoning AND medical disorders.
Unlike lightwave who is a pig-thick xian fundie.

That sounds suspiciously like another group. What were they called again...
We have the evidence.
We win.
Heliocentrism and the "germ theory" of disease also have adherents and evangelists, persecute their heretics, excommunicate their apostates, shout down their nay-sayers and demand loyalty and exclusivity among their faithful. That doesn't mean they're wrong. It just means that the heretics and nay-sayers have long since been proven full of crap.
How about:
"Gravity is a belief system and the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind
it has adherents and evangelists, persecutes its heretics, excommunicates its apostates, shouts down its nay-sayers and demands loyalty and exclusivity among its faithful"
Evolution is a belief system and the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind.
How the fuck would you know? It's not as if you even understand the science behind evolution. What you rail against is what your fundie parents, pastors, and friends have convinced you is evolution.
Here's a newsflash, Sparkie, they don't know dick and neither do you.
