Look at the history of pagan religions, many of them have goddesses the worship. Islam and catholicism have something in common, a great respect for Myriam as she is known in islam, or Mary as we know her. Many of you have heard of "our lady of Fatima". It was a demon in the form of Mary which appeared a number of times to 3 children in Portugal in 1917. What many of you don't know is that Fatima is the name of Muhammad's daughter by his first wife.

According to your own holy book, she was the mother of your supposed savior and the one “daughter of Eve” your god found worthy to give birth to himself/his son. Shouldn’t you pay her also “great respect”?
What many of you don't know is that Fatima is the name of Muhammad's daughter by his first wife.
And?
One thing I've never understood about Protestant fundies: Why shouldn't the mother of their god have great respect?
True, Catholics seem to go nuts seeing Mary everywhere, but Protestants seem to have total revulsion at the idea of anyone paying homage to her.
@ Doubting Thomas
Catholic dogma teaches that Mary was born without sexual intercourse, gave birth without having sexual intercourse, and was raised into Heaven never having engaged in sex. The brothers of Jesus referred to in the bible are said to have been spiritual, not familial brothers. Thus, for Catholics, Mary is the perfect symbol of purity, purity being the favorite idol of the Catholic Church.
Protestants, by contrast, regard everything that detracts from Jesus with suspicion and contempt. The more extreme Protestants went so far as to strip their churches of everything the Catholics had that was beautiful like icons, liturgical colors and vibrant hymns. Mary represented a significant distraction from Jesus, and thus had to be devalued. As Mary was a woman, this was relatively easy for them.
Hope that makes it clear.
Nope, Our Lady of Fátima was named after the town in Portugal, which apparently was named after a Moorish woman was named after Mohammed's daughter. It could just as easily have been Our Lady of (insert Portuguese/whatever town/village/city here).
Not that I expect fundies to do any research on what they're attacking.

"Catholic dogma teaches that Mary was born without sexual intercourse, gave birth without having sexual intercourse, and was raised into Heaven never having engaged in sex."
Close, but not quite. Mary was conceived through sexual intercourse, she was just spared of the original sin. The other two are indeed Catholic beliefs, although I'm not sure that "she never engaged in sex" is actually dogma.

What you seem to be unaware of is that Portugal (and most of Spain) were in Moorish hands (as was the knowledge of the Greeks that led the way out of the Dark Ages). It's definitely not surprising that a town owned by Muslims would have a Muslim name. But, just because a town has a Muslim name doesn't make it permanently Muslim any more than having the name "New York" makes New Yorkers drink tea and eat spotted dick.
Funny that someone like yours truly - who did RE at school - knows more than those on Ruptured Retards to know that Fatima is not a person, but a place in Portugal.
...oh, and Mary existed before Islam did, according to your theology. Therefore the mother of your J-man is a demon ?! [/hyper-paradox] If you have any knowledge of Theology, that is; frankly, I'm a Professor of that subject, compared to you lot at RR. And I only did RE at school .

...it's how a Catholic got pwned when it came to knowing (or not !) about his own beliefs; certainly the basis of such. >:D
'Know your enemy and know yourself. And you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles ' indeed. [/Sun Tzu]
Moral: We Atheists know more about your own beliefs - infinitely more - than you fundies do. And you wonder why people no longer 'belie ve'...?!
@Ludd
And if these Protestants in RR are by definition supposed to oppose all forms of Popery [/Ian Paisley], why are they trying to out-catholicise the Catholics, re. abortion & contraception...?! [/paradox]
Seems we Atheists are the real Protestants these days.
Our Lady of Fatima is the same woman as Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Loretto, Our Lady of Czestochowa, Our Lady of Lourdes and Our Lady of Zeitoun. What Verisimilitude may not know is that zeitoun is the Arabic word for "olive."
Interesting name, Verisimilitude - the appearance of being true.
"Look at the history of pagan religions, many of them have goddesses the worship."
Look at Fundie churches. Many of them actually allow women, any one of which might be that demon. At least the Muslims have the good sense to keep their women seperate... you know, in case a battle with demons breaks out.
"It was a demon in the form of Mary which appeared a number of times to 3 children in Portugal in 1917."
And we know it was a demon because we know children never make shit up, and besides, it tried to get them to wear plaid with stripes.
"What many of you don't know is that Fatima is the name of Muhammad's daughter by his first wife."
And Paris was the son of King Priam of Troy, and started the Trojan wars that destroyed the city.
Cleveland, Ohio is named for General Moses Cleaveland, who was named after that Ten Commandments guy.
So what? Big deal.
@greywolf:
Mary not having sex in her life was never formally dogmatised (by Council or Pope), but Catholic lithurgical texts are choke-full of invocations to 'Mary, ever the Virgin', including the vital parts of Holy Mass.
Mary's perpetual virginity is an essential part of Catholicism, but I don't think it's dogma. The immaculate conception is dogma, but refers only to Mary's conception without original sin, not her parents' state or her continued exemption from sin.
This stuff has all been discussed ad nauseum, you could spend years reading everything about it.
Isn't Fatima in Portugal? You know, the same Portugal right next door to Spain, which was controlled by the Moorish Muslims for centuries?
Also- and I may be wrong, but it's what I heard as a little Catholic girl- Mary was born (and was assumed into heaven/or died, whatever) a virgin free from the original sin. She may have have had sex, she may have not, but she remained a virgin, and sinless to boot. I suppose if you're going to carry the savior of the world in your womb, you kind of have to be, y'know, perfect.
What many of you don't know is that Fatima is the name of Muhammad's daughter by his first wife.
"Fatima" was the name of the town where the girls had their vision. It was named after Mohammad's wife because Portugal and much of southern Spain was under Muslim rule up until the 13th century.
"What many of you don't know is that Fatima is the name of Muhammad's daughter by his first wife."
This fun fact has been provided, at no cost to you whatsoever, by Rapture Ready Educational Services.
Let me tell you a little fact that your astounding ignorance doesn't let you know. Fatima is the name of the village where the kids lived, which happened to have that name because it was given by the Arabs when they occupied that place. A little research, and I'm not talking about Chick tracts.
Confused?
