Another reason why we are close to the Lord's return, He won't allow Mankind to
control his creation.
This was one of the reasons He got rid of the pre-flood civilisation, genetic engineering.

I remember, back when I was a little kid, being told in all seriousness by the people running the children's church service that the pre-flood people had MAD TECHNOSKILLS, and had figured out some way of breeding all kinds of creatures together, and that that's one reason the fossil record is so full of crazy shit and ape-men that don't exist today. Because, you see, the pre-flood people worshiped- in addition to Satan- SCIENCE.
(Nevermind that if someone accepts this nonsense, then in all fairness they should also accept that it's probably also why all the debauched pre-flood people laughed their asses off at Noah, since if you had the technology available to build those cities from the cover of a scifi anthology and FUCKING GENETICALLY-ENGINEER YOU YOUR VERY OWN MONKEYMAN, why on earth would you be building an insanely (from the structural POV alone) large boat out of WOOD?
And why would a god who wants to save people instruct his lone follower to do something to convince everyone else that he's either insane, retarded, or some combination of both?)
So yeah, sad as it is, this creep isn't alone.
Sweetie, we've been controlling his creation for quite some time--"test tube" babies, vaccines, selective breeding of animals, weather control, GMO foods. If your god has something to say about it, he needs to bring it on.
P.S. I seriously need a citation on the pre-flood civilization doing any "genetic engineering". Breeding striped goats with the aid of striped sticks don't count.
well, the comment about bronze age people participating in genetic engineering (i suppose artificial selection, animal husbandry, counts) aside, we have been genetically engineering shit for years. and yet never have we been stopped by your invisible sky magician.
Re:askoid's post
I believe that Imperious means the former, as his first statement implies God will not allow Man to control himself...
As such, the "Pre-Flood Civilisation" was doing Genetic engineering, in a similar manner to we do today...
Mind you, if this was true, why did'nt they just genetically engineer themselves to survive in Aquatic/Flood conditions...?
One of the things I laugh best about this ways is both their capacity to contradict themselves and their extrapolation of things which have nothing to do with each other. One day, they say that Global Warming doesn´t exist because God give us the Earth(HIS CREATION)to destroy it to our whim and now NO WAY. And second, they say that the people before the Flood were genetically modified. How?, not only they lived in a civilisation were there was not the technology for that BUT ALSO, they were supposed to be the descendants of Caine, well, we all know his genes. Childish reasoning to say the least.
Your god fucked up, then.
Humans have been practicing genetic engineering when it was decided that civilization was a good idea. We generally refer to these practices as agriculture and animal husbandry.
Just thought you might like to know.
...Whiterider, is that you?
I wonder how this person explains the fact that these gene-manipulating scientists from Atlantis the Bronze age didn't have refrigeration, guns, or indoor plumbing?
Seriously, do these people have some sort of mental disconnec- oh, right.
Uh huh, just like how he hasn't allowed us to selectively breed plants and animals to our liking, which is basically the low-tech way of genetically engineering lifeforms. Enjoy your seedless fruit, dear.
As crazy as the Noachian flood story is these idiots can't resist adding more stupid to it. It's possibly the ultimate goalpost moving stragedy they have.
It's like " Oh, you don't believe that? Well, modern science has discovered this and that so there!"

We ARE controlling "his creation". Every fucking day we are controlling it and taking his ass to school.
Oh, vanity of vanities. Nature shrugs and we die like flies. The Asian Tsunami, the New Orleans flood. Wait for the San Andreas earthquake or the Yellowstone supervolcano. Those will show us how close we are to controlling nature.
And that's coming from an atheist.
@#946112
HA! You're trolling FSTDT, then you post anonymously and, as a final bitchslap to your own face and possibly your retarded religion, you quote natural disasters as some sort of evidence.
Go get the following things:
1. a life
2. an education
3. a grip on reality
The local department store is open late on Thursdays... I hear they have a sale on.
@The Jamo: no need to get all trigger-happy on #946112, he just pointed that our control over nature is far from absolute, and that to believe that we've made nature our bitch is rather arrogant. Unless I completely misunderstood his post, he is an atheist himself.
@Adrian
No one said anything about absolutes, including myself. As a species, we have made it our prerogative to control nature. In fact, the original fundie post was referring to god's "creation" and my original response was aimed at that. I can admit that my response to #946112 was a bit much and I apologise for the outburst, but with all the examples posted by all the users here, to suggest that we aren't in control of anything is incorrect and somewhat defeatist. I cannot agree with such a view.
@The Jamo:
We pollute the earth, we poison the waters and we breed until we can't even feed our own children.
How is that 'controlling his creation?
And I repeat, I have no religion, I'm an atheist.
Not that "It's wrong to play god" argument. Not one of them says why.
Agriculture, irrigation, dams, plumbing, electricity, clothes... Humanity, stop playing god. If he wanted us to be clothed, we would have been born with it etc, etc.
Edit: it's aimed at original post. Just to make sure:)
Technically we've been genetic engineering for centuries through artificial selection. Is that what you mean? Because, if it is, you're an idiot because we've been doing it for centuries without incurring the wrath of god.
And if it isn't, and you mean ancient cultures were directly manipulating the genome of various animals via scientific methods, then you're... a word has yet to be devised to adequately describe what you are, but you are one. And a total one at that.

"why would a god who wants to save people instruct his lone follower to do something to convince everyone else that he's either insane, retarded, or some combination of both?"
If god wanted to start over, then he would make the people disbelieve Noah so they wouldn't go on the boat.
We've been fiddling with the world around us in increasingly drastic ways for as long as there have been people around to do it. It's what we do, for better or for worse.
I don't see many signs of Anyone coming to save us from the results of any tampering. Behaving if as Someone will is as counterproductive as hoping that there will be a miracle in the last five seconds before impact in a car crash.
Confused?
