Most Christians are not homophobic or transphobic [...] they just disagree with them.
What? Are you even listening to yourself? Disagreeing with what somebody is IS bigotry. If I disagree with a black man just 'cause he's black, does that make me tolerant and reasonable? No, it makes me a friggin' bigot.
Adam Ford: "Like most Christians, I'm not *hateful* or *fearful* towards homosexuals and transsexuals! I'm just opposed to stuff like gay 'marriage' or folks with dicks using women's rooms!"
Atheist: "Well, like most *atheists* I'm not hateful or fearful towards Christians; I'm just opposed to stuff like church tax excemption or creationism being taught as science in school!"
Adam Ford: "SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH, YOU HATE MONGERING, ANTI-CHRISTIAN *BIGOT*!!!!!"
We may not see eye to eye on the seasoning of a particular recipe. That is a disagreement.
But if you do not agree with what a person is and if, what that person is presents no danger to anybody, then you are intolerant. How bloody difficult is that to understand?
Most Christians are not homophobic or transphobic, no. Only fundie Christians are.
Disagreeing with homosexuality and/or transgender is like disagreeing with diabetes or winter. You can disagree with opinions, but you can't disagree with the existence of people, illnesses or seasons.
Nobody said "disagreement is intolerance". What is actually intolerance, or if you prefer, bigotry, is harming other people for who they are through your conduct. I.e., not allowing them to get married, or (before the Supreme Court made them stop), actually arresting people for engaging in homosexual sex.
Being anti gay marriage means stopping other people from marrying: they controls their lives according to your belief system, and this forces them to comply with it. being pro gay marriage means allowing people to get married: it does not stop anybody else from marrying, and thus does not impose anybody's beliefs on them. Unless, of course, you think it is intolerant not to allow you to force other people to live by your beliefs.
You don't actually know the meaning of "tolerance", "hate-monger", "bigot" and "homophobe", don't you? That's ok, you can still learn. But stop trying to lecture us about things you obviously don't (or don't want to) understand.
I don't tolerate intolerance AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU! If you say "I hate Charlie because he stole my marbles in second grade, and he's gay", that's fine, that's you hating an individual who may or may not deserve it. But when you say "I hate gays" that's a blanket condemnation of individuals you've never met, and that's bigotry...
....and why am I saying this to Adam, who is impervious to logic?
Confused?
