However, East Germany was called the "German Democratic Republic," and Communist China is called the "People's Republic of China" -- so you can't put a whole lot of stock in just a name, anyhow. We need to remember our ideals and live up to them as a nation, whatever we call ourselves.

If someone crosses the border illegally, shoot first and ask questions later. Shoot only if the person is crossing the border illegally. To determine whether or not they're crossing the border illegally, ask questions, such as whether they don't have a passport. If a person is crossing illegally, then shoot before asking any questions.

Okay, um, see if you can clear up this wee question for me; If you shoot them first, and then ask questions, how do you know if they're legal or illegal?

If people really want to put an end to illegal immigration, that is not the way. Instead of building fences, we should build bridges (to be cliche). Illegal immigration will not decline until MEXICO becomes a more desirable place to live. With JOBS! That pay comparative wages to US wages, decreasing the incentive of crossing the border and working illegally. But this would require a drastic improvement in Mexico's economy, which will not happen without foreign captial. [And from here I can go on for 20 pages about cross-border-cooperation, the NAFTA, US-CAN-MEX relations, US-MEX history (we had a tendency to invade Mexico to protect our investments there)]
tldr: As Mexico's economy improves, illegal immigration will decline. Long-term solution to illegal immigration: help Mexico.
Yeah, what if the Native Americans had successfully done that when the British first came over? Then you wouldn't be alive today, suggesting that immigrants be killed when your ancestors themselves were originally immigrants.
